Key numbers
This year, an unprecedented 17,000 prospective students from 89 Russian regions applied to ITMO University. Previously, the total number of applications was 13,000 in 2022 and 12,000 in 2021 and 2020.
1,378 – that’s how many students were admitted to the university’s tuition-free positions, which is 75 more than last year. Their average Unified State Exam (USE) score is 92.6. Additionally, 42 students (1.5 times more than in 2022) entered the university as part of sponsorship programs from various high-tech companies. Their average USE score is 85.
12% (or 160) of all successful applicants entered ITMO via special state programs.
Upholding the usual standard, nearly half of all future tuition-free students – 564 – are winners of various contests, including the National Student Contest, the National Technology Contest, and the Open Competition hosted by ITMO. On average, such students provided certificates from two or more competitions with their applications.
Popular programs
As usual, programs in the field of IT have proved the most popular among applicants. That includes subject areas Information Security (2,154 applications), Information Systems and Technologies (2,018 applications), Software Engineering (1,851 applications), Computer Science and Computing Hardware (1,773 applications), and Infocommunication Technologies and Communication Systems (1,164 applications).
The highest USE score threshold, too, is found in that category, with Information Systems and Technologies (310), Applied Computer Science (308), and Software Engineering (304) taking the top spots.
Opportunities for talents
Entrance competitions and state exams aren’t the only way to get into a Bachelor’s program at ITMO – potential applicants can also present a scientific or social project, as well as an engineering design or a tech startup. This opportunity is offered by ITMO.STARS, a special initiative for gifted applicants that was launched six years ago.
This year, the program’s participants have set an all-time record: the university received applications from 15 regions of the country, while a total of 26 winners were announced. Read more in our article.
For those still on the fence, the application window remains open: applications to tuition-based positions are still being accepted until August 19 (via entrance exams).
The full results of this year’s admissions campaign, including Master’s and PhD programs, will be announced in late August.
