New strolling destinations
This was the month I finally went on my strolling “mission” to the now not-so-new promenade by the Lakhta Center. Though a sea-and-architecture combo is an instant win for me, that wasn’t the only thing that won my heart that day. From the viewing deck, you can see a small black-and-gold chapel in the distance, which stands in brash contrast with the high-tech Lakhta. It’s called the Chapel of St. Peter, and it’s a replica of a 19th-century chapel that currently also serves as a lighthouse. I couldn’t figure out how and whether it’s possible to get a better look at it, but that is definitely a gem worth hitting 20k+ steps by the end of that day for. – Marina
Switch language, save money or Your app’s language matters
This week, I discovered a travel hack that’s almost too good to keep under covers. While browsing flights on Trip.com, I noticed that simply changing the app’s language and region settings, specifically switching to French or Dutch, unlocked noticeably lower fares for the exact same routes. It’s a subtle trick, but one that can shave off a surprising amount from your total cost! – Subhrajit
Lazy vacation
As a teenager, I promised myself that I’d never go on holiday if it just meant sunbathing on a beach, rolling from one side to another and only needing to decide whether to start the next day laying by the pool or by the sea. I was certain that I would never like that, that I would need only adventure and would abhor stillness. Fast-forward to the start of this month, when I found myself on not just such a holiday – but also thoroughly enjoying it. Finally, I could just lock my phone and smartwatch in a hotel safe, totally disconnect and just read for hours on the beach, watching and occasionally joining the delighted bathers in the waves. Turns out, it was exactly what I needed to recharge for my next, non-lazy, adventure. – Catherine
The importance of taking a break
My discovery is actually pretty similar to Catherine’s. Just like her, I catch myself thinking that I enjoy stillness much more than I used to. A lazy holiday sounds perfect! But it’s just as important to enjoy these moments of silence and relaxation in your daily life. When weather allows for it, I go out to drink my coffee outside rather than at my desk, for instance. Just a couple of minutes in the sun without scrolling and notifications feel so refreshing even in the middle of the busiest day. – Kseniia
