How we did in 2025

Last year, we attempted to foresee what 2025 held for us, and it seems we did pretty well:

  • One thing we could fully count on was that ITMO would be blossoming with all kinds of activities – 2025 was full of exciting highlights, new spaces, cool wins, and scientific discoveries.

  • Another trend we guessed was healthy lifestyle and exercise: at ITMO, the KronBars Games intrauniversity championship is gaining popularity, while new sports venues opened in St. Petersburg.

  • With underconsumption, we struck gold, too. Not only have we seen more and more content around the topic all over social media in 2025, we expect the trend to continue and grow this year.

Frugal living

While last year, we learned to shop mindfully, this year we will be extending these lessons to other fields of life: valuing experiences over material possessions, exploring our DIY skills, buying second-hand, and focusing on long-term financial goals. We will be decluttering, frequenting libraries, and managing our subscriptions.

Mental well-being

We are calling it: in 2026, we will finally cancel hustle culture in favor of a more sustainable lifestyle. Fewer goals, more joy, and a couple more stupid walks for stupid mental health. Overworking is over – this year, we will see more people prioritizing life in their work-life balance, following their passions, starting new hobbies, and fewer people burning out.

Going analog

Screens aren’t going anywhere, but in 2026, more and more people will choose analog hobbies that require doing something manually. From low-effort activities like doing puzzles, coloring, and simple crafts to more demanding ones like learning new languages, playing an instrument, or doing pottery, any non-digital hobby you have the capacity for is going to add a lot more fun and presence to your life.

Seeking for community

Everything is better with good company. We expect people to socialize more this year and strive to do so ourselves. There’s meaning and joy in sharing your experience with someone, whether it’s a close friend or someone you met once.

That’s why social spaces matter, and why ITMO is focused on offering its students opportunities to connect – from clubs and coworking spaces to large events and conferences.
