Closing of the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra season

Taking the phrase “ending on a high note” to heart, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra chose to end this season with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 and R. StraussEine Alpensinfoniе (An Alpine Symphony). Both pieces represent an ending of some sort – Mozart’s last concert and one of the last breaths of romanticism. However, there is a place for beginnings as well: the concert introduces the young but already acclaimed pianist Konstantin Emelyanov as a soloist.
