Hi Tamim! Thanks for joining me today. What first sparked your interest in computer systems and technologies?
Growing up in a rural area with very little access to technology, I was always curious about computers. That limitation inspired me to dig deeper, and since then I’ve been driven to learn and grow in this field.
Why ITMO? And how has it shaped your journey so far?
I chose ITMO because of its strong reputation in computer science. I wanted a place that would challenge me and open global opportunities. Here I’ve not only gained knowledge, but also learned to adapt, embrace diversity, and think bigger.
What was your first impression of St. Petersburg?
The breathtaking architecture amazed me right away. But what touched me most was the warmth and kindness of the people, which made me feel welcomed from the very start.
Has any class or project stood out so far?
As a first-year student, I haven’t done big projects yet, but programming itself feels eye-opening. Writing code and solving problems excites me, and I’m eager to dive deeper into AI and machine learning.
Which area of computer science excites you most?
Right now I’m most drawn to AI, machine learning, and data science. I love how data can be turned into insights, and how AI uses them to solve real problems in fields like healthcare and education.
How has life in Russia been so far?
At first, the language barrier and the cold weather were tough, but learning Russian has made things much easier. I’ve had funny moments practicing the language, and I’ve been touched by how kind and helpful people are. Now I feel much more at home.
ITMO has a big international community. How has that influenced you?
Meeting students from so many cultures feels like the world gathered in one place. Sharing food, ideas, and solving problems together has made me more open-minded and confident in a global setting.

What do you enjoy doing outside of studies?
Studies keep me busy for most of the day, but in my free time I enjoy listening to music. I also love wandering around St. Petersburg, sitting in parks or by the riverside, and soaking in the calm atmosphere.
Do you have a favorite spot in the city?
Yes, the Begovaya metro station is my favorite. There’s a park there by the water, and sitting there in the fresh air always clears my mind and gives me new energy.
What do you miss from Bangladesh, and what have you grown fond of here?
I miss my family the most, especially the warmth of festivals back home. But here I’ve grown fond of St. Petersburg’s parks and, of course, the kindness of people, which makes Russia feel like a second home.

Looking ahead, what kind of career do you dream of?
I dream of working with AI and data science to solve real problems. I see myself as both a researcher and a developer, exploring new ideas and turning them into smart, useful solutions that make life easier.
What advice would you give to other Bangladeshi students considering ITMO?
Studying abroad brings challenges like language and culture, but it also opens amazing opportunities. Work hard, stay open-minded, and believe in yourself. The journey will change you for the better.
