What motivated you to pursue higher education in Russia?
While doing my Bachelor’s in software engineering, I became increasingly motivated to understand software security at a deeper, professional level. Cybersecurity felt like the natural next step. I chose Russia and ITMO in particular, because ITMO is one of the best places in the world for cybersecurity education. My friend, Md. Arafat Rahman, who studied information security here, also guided me a lot and helped me understand the academic environment in Russia.
How has your experience with the Foundation Program been so far?
It has been very positive. Learning Russian is challenging, especially the grammar and pronunciation, but it’s also enjoyable. Every day, I feel my communication skills improving, which makes daily life easier and more interesting.
Cybersecurity is a fast-moving field. Which areas excite you the most, and why?
I’m most excited about software security, network defense, and threat detection. These areas let me combine my software engineering background with advanced tools and strategies that protect systems in real time.
What skills or habits do you think the Foundation Program is helping you develop for your Master’s?
My discipline, time management, and language skills. It’s also helping me adapt to a new academic environment, which I believe will make my Master’s studies much smoother.
How did you feel when you first arrived in St. Petersburg?
I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness. But very soon, after seeing the university, meeting students from different countries, and experiencing the beauty of the city, I felt certain that I had made the right decision.
What’s something about Russian culture that surprised you in a positive way?
I was pleasantly surprised by the warmth, diversity, and strong sense of tradition in Russian culture. People are very helpful, and I love the colors and beauty of the festivals, architecture, and everyday life.
Did you attend the recently concluded Bangladesh Culture Night at ITMO? How was it?
I did. It was wonderful to see our culture represented with pride. The energy, performances, and community spirit made it a memorable event.
How do your family and friends in Bangladesh feel about your decision, and what do you miss most about home?
They are very supportive and proud that I’m studying at ITMO. What I miss most is my family, especially my parents, my wife, my little brother, and the familiar comfort of home.
What advice would you give future Bangladeshi students who want to study in Russia?
It’s simple: stay confident, prepare well, and don’t hesitate to take the opportunity. Russia offers excellent education, especially in tech fields like cybersecurity. ITMO, in particular, provides strong academic support and a very friendly international student community.
