Aptamers are a special kind of DNA and RNA molecules, valued in medical science and biosensing for their ability to bind with specific molecules, proteins, or cells. Finding the right aptamer for the job, however, can be a time-consuming process. Computational models help by calculating the probabilities, but struggle when faced with new samples that differ from what’s found in the training set. AptaBench, a new testing tool developed at ITMO, solves that issue by adding a second layer of verification to any such model.

These days, the use of magnetic resonance imaging isn’t exclusive to medicine; MRI scans are helpful in many industries and disciplines, from product development to geology. ITMO University’s annual MRI School is the only event of its kind in Russia and exists to facilitate further development of this technology. Speaking of AI and humans working hand-in-hand: a group of students from the university’s AI Talent Hub Master’s program have unveiled their Avito AI Reviewer, a model designed to assist the experts involved in the educational programs offered by Avito (a major Russian classified ads and online services platform – Ed.). In order to help streamline the grading process, the model will assess homework assignments based on predetermined criteria, highlight points of contention, and prepare a preliminary evaluation for review by human educators.
