Device for High-Accuracy Cell Experiments Developed at ITMO
ITMO’s portable mini lab now has a new device that combines two methods for studying substances: atomic-force microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. With the device, it’s possible to study the properties of materials and cells; its application will accelerate the development of biomaterials by making microbiological experiments more accurate. Now, the mini lab is used for growing cell cultures, developing databases, and developing cells and organs.

ITMO and Geoscan To Open Joint Student Construction Bureau for Designing Unmanned Aircraft Systems
ITMO University and Geoscan, the largest drone manufacturer in Russia, are launching a practice-oriented student construction bureau where students will get to work on industrial tasks from the company’s specialists and learn to design and test unmanned aircraft systems. The center will be opened at ITMO in September.

Home of Future Leaders: ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School Opens New Site
On November 1, one of the university’s buildings at Lomonosova St. 9 was officially reopened after renovation. Its seven labs, two coworking spaces, and the office of ITMO’s Advanced Engineering School are already available to students and staff. The building will serve as a venue for research and joint projects with the school’s partners. At the official opening ceremony, it was also announced that the school will be the first Advanced Engineering School in Russia to have its own endowment fund.

ITMO Opens Lab to Train AI Infosecurity Experts
Over last year alone, the demand for information security experts in AI grew by 30%. In parallel to this growing demand, there is also a lack of professionals with the necessary qualifications for this field on the market. One of the reasons for it is that no one trains such specialists. In response to that, ITMO and the company Raft launched a research laboratory called LLM Security Lab that is meant to teach students to work in the field of infosec for LLM and AI business solutions.

ITMO Researchers Present Automated Mobile Laboratory For Artificial Heart Development
A mini laboratory for managing cell and bacterial systems was created as a result of collaboration between scientists from ITMO University, Siberian Federal University, the Fund for Infrastructure and Educational Programs, and the research and manufacturing association Prolab. The project, recently presented at the Almazov National Medical Research Centre, will be used to grow cell cultures and create experiment-based databases; another avenue opened by the device is the development of an artificial heart. ITMO and Sberbank Take Partnership to Next Level With New Staff Training Center
The strategic partnership between ITMO University and Sberbank in the field of robotics begins a new chapter: since 2019, the university and the banking company have offered the joint Master’s program Robotics and Artificial Intelligence; now, the program’s graduates will take leading roles as employees of the bank’s Robotics Laboratory. Here, they will work on cutting-edge R&D. The company is conducting projects on the international scientific frontier – more precisely, the field of embodied intelligence – with plans to develop the national high-tech market of service robotics.

Results of ITMO's 2030 Open Call for Projects Announced
All six projects selected by the expert board will now enter development and receive funding from the Priority 2030 program, with the first progress review slated for June 2023. The open call for projects is being held as part of the university’s 2030 Development Strategy.
