Gennady Korotkevich Wins 2019 Topcoder Open Competition in Two Tracks
The results of this year’s Topcoder Open Competition have recently been announced in Houston. The competition brings together programmers and developers from all over the world and consists of six tracks, including Marathon and Algorithm. These are the tracks that ITMO University graduate and PhD student Gennady Korotkevich took first place in, thus becoming the first participant who came first in two tracks at once.

ITMO Student Klim Gavrilov Wins Gold at FIA Motorsport Games in Italy
Klim Gavrilov, a second-year student of the Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems, is a gold medal-winner of the FIA Motorsport Games. The event, best described as the Olympics of motorsport, took place from October 31 to November 3, 2019 at the Vallelunga circuit in Italy. Klim Gavrilov competed – and won – in a racecar adorned with ITMO University’s logo.

ITMO University Team Wins ICPC Regional Quarter-Finals
Last weekend, ITMO University hosted the qualifying round of the Russian Programming Competition for School Children and the quarter-finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) for students. The events brought together the best young programmers from the North-West of Russia, who competed for the chance to participate in the next rounds of the competitions. ITMO.NEWS attended the tournament and found out what tasks the participants had to solve, as well as how many teams will represent ITMO University at the regional semi-final round of ICPC for students.

Russian School Students Score a Resounding Victory at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics
A team of Russian school students helmed by coaches from the country’s leading universities has won four gold medals becoming best in the team event at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). In IOI’s individual event, Russia’s Ildar Gainullin posted the world’s second-best result. One of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world, this year’s Olympiad is being held on August 4-11 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

ITMO University Takes Second Place at RoboCup 2019
On July 7, the Australian city of Sydney hosted the biggest international robotics competition RoboCup 2019. Representing Russia was ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory with their new robot ELSA, a beautiful humanoid playing the flute. ITMO team took second place in the OnStage Advanced category and first place in the RoboCup SuperTeam Challenge category.

ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Team Wins Gold in National Stage of World Robot Olympiad 2019
On June 23, the 2019 Russian Robot Olympiad, the national stage of the World Robot Olympiad, wrapped up at the Innopolis University (Kazan). This year, the venue, which has been hosting the country’s largest competition in the field since 2014, welcomed 211 coaches and 537 participants aged from 12 to 18 years old. Among them was the team from ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory, who presented their new invention, LEGO Education Helper, taking the first prize of the competition.

Gennadiy Korotkevich Wins 2018 Topcoder Open Marathon
ITMO University PhD student Gennady Korotkevich took first place in this year’s Topcoder Open Marathon Competition, which was held in Texas (US) on November 13-16. During a ten-hour final round, he left behind 11 other participants. What is more, this year, Gennady Korotkevich and Boris Minaev, ITMO graduate and ACM ICPC-2015 champion, got to the finals in the Algorithm track.

ITMO Robotics Team Will Participate in World Robot Olympiad 2018
ITMO University’s school team from the Creative Robotics Laboratory at ITMO’s School of Computer Technologies and Control led by coach Igor Lositskiy was chosen for participation in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO-2018) that will take place in Thailand on November 16-18.

ScienceMedia-2018: Russian Student Media
Last week, ITMO University hosted ScienceMedia, the national student media forum, organized in collaboration with the Megabyte student media group. This year, 55 participants from more than 25 cities arrived in St. Petersburg. During the forum, they took part in special workshops, excursions and a contest for the title of the best in their business. The winners told us how the student media are developing, what difficulties they face and why it is important to be part of the media community.

HEX Hackathon: 32 Hours to Make the World a Better Place
More than 300 programmers from all over the world took part in last month's HEX Hackathon in Eindhoven (the Netherlands). HEX is coordinated by Major League Hacking (MLH), a student hackathon league. The participants of HEX Hackathon had only 32 hours to come up with the most creative solution in one of its ten tracks. Team Marvin from ITMO University chose the Future Society track and proposed an application that would help charity organisations to recruit volunteers and allow people to find charity work inside their communities. The team was awarded the second place by an expert jury that included experts from the Bloomberg company, the track’s coordinator.
