ITMO Students Win Moscow Travel Hack for Second Year in Row
The hackathon aims to promote tourism in Moscow. This year, among its partners were SberBank, Domodedovo Airport, Rosatom, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, and others. The grand prize was 1.5 million rubles.

ITMO University Student Wins One Million Rubles at Sberbank Competition
Daniil Tsimerman, a first-year student at the Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems, was ranked first in the Junior category at AIJ Contest. The online competition was organized by Sberbank as part of the AI Journey conference.

ITMO University Students Win the Rosneft Robotics Hackathon

Education Goes Digital: Results of ITMO DigiEduHack
On October 3-4, ITMO University hosted ITMO DigiEduHack, a hackathon on digital education organized as part of the European Commission’s major initiative. The event brought together dozens of teams from the UK, Italy, Finland and other countries that collaborated on projects in the field of digital education. ITMO University became the only hackathon’s venue in Russia. The competition in St. Petersburg gathered over 100 participants: students, lecturers, university graduates, school children and professional programmers.

ITMO.STARS 2019 Winners: Who They Are and Why They Chose ITMO
This year, the ITMO.STARS competition for prospective students with unique accomplishments was held by ITMO for the second time in a row. It lets the winners join ITMO even if their Unified State Exam score wouldn’t normally allow them to. The only formal criterion is to pass the minimal Unified State Exam points threshold. This year saw twice as many applications as the previous one. Among the winners are 15 participants from St. Petersburg, Moscow, Chelyabinsk, Pskov, Abakan, and other cities. They told ITMO.NEWS how to land a job at VK in your school years, how to open your own video studio, and why you shouldn't underestimate yourself.

ITMO University Students Win NTI Competition
At the beginning of March, a number of ITMO University students went to Innopolis University to participate in the Competition of the National Technology Initiative, which they ended up winning. Previously held exclusively for school students, in 2019 the competition was spread to university students. By participant’s accounts, the organization process wasn’t always up to standard, but the four days of dynamic work and exciting collaborations at the state-of-the-art science center and communication were worth it. Alfa-Bank Scholarship Winners on How to Innovate the Most Innovative University Out There
Alfa-Chance, a scholarship contest organized by Alfa-Bank, has recently come to an end. After three competition stages, the organizers and expert committee selected the best three out of 63 shortlisted candidates to be awarded a scholarship prize: Ekaterina Subbotina, Ivan Timakhovich and Timofey Timofeev. ITMO.NEWS met with the winners to find out what helped them succeed and how do they plan to develop their projects.

ITMO Robotics Team Wins Gold at World Robot Olympiad 2018 in Thailand
It’s a wrap for this year’s World Robot Olympiad (WRO-2018), an international competition for talented school and university students from more than 60 countries, and a good one at that for ITMO University’s robotics team, who took first prize in the Senior High age group. The team was led by coach Igor Lositskiy. In total, Russian teams have claimed three medals in all age groups of the Open category.

ITMO.STARS Winners Share Their Experience
This year marked the first time when ITMO University launched ITMO.STARS, a contest for talented and motivated school students willing to enter ITMO University. There was only one condition: you have to get the minimal Unified State Exam score and be ready to present the result of your own research, social, or business project to the contest committee. 14 school students from different Russian cities became winners and got the opportunity to study at ITMO for free. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, they talk about the professions of the future, as well as share their advice on how to learn programming in a small town, and how to pluck up your courage to apply for a contest.
