  • International Year of Periodic Table Proclaimed Open in Paris

    1869 is considered to be the year of discovery of the Periodic System by the Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this important milestone, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019). The opening ceremony was hosted in UNESCO headquarters in Paris on January 29. It kick-started the year abounding with large-scale scientific events such as the key 4th International Conference on the Periodic Table, which is to be held at ITMO University in July 2019.

  • ITMO University Scientists Create Cancer Treatment Nanomachines

    Scientists from ITMO in collaboration with their international colleagues proposed new DNA-based nanomachines that can be used for gene therapy of cancer. This new invention can greatly contribute to making the treatment of oncological diseases more effective and selective. The results were published in Angewandte Chemie.

  • ITMO Researchers Develop Fast and Simple Perovskite Nanolaser Creation Method

    Using the new method, scientists can synthesize perovskite nanolasers, which combine an optically active medium with a Fabry–Pérot high-Q resonator, in just five minutes. The nanolasers’ simple synthesis process and their unique optical qualities make them highly promising sources of coherent radiation in the development of high-sensitivity optical sensors and ultra-fast data transfer in photonic integrated circuits. Results of this research have been published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

  • Magic of Light: ITMO’s Interactive Exhibition in Shanghai

    An interactive exhibition of holographic installations Magic of Light, organized by ITMO University together with the Hellenic Institute of Holography, has just opened its doors for visitors. The exhibition is hosted on 1,000 square meters of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and features over 150 items, including ultra-realistic full-color holograms, optoclones from the collection of the Hermitage, the Fabergé Museum, and the Diamond Fund.
