  • International Year of Periodic Table Proclaimed Open in Paris

    1869 is considered to be the year of discovery of the Periodic System by the Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of this important milestone, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019). The opening ceremony was hosted in UNESCO headquarters in Paris on January 29. It kick-started the year abounding with large-scale scientific events such as the key 4th International Conference on the Periodic Table, which is to be held at ITMO University in July 2019.

  • ITMO University Scientists Create Cancer Treatment Nanomachines

    Scientists from ITMO in collaboration with their international colleagues proposed new DNA-based nanomachines that can be used for gene therapy of cancer. This new invention can greatly contribute to making the treatment of oncological diseases more effective and selective. The results were published in Angewandte Chemie.
