Results of the 2018 Admissions Campaign at ITMO University
The 2018 admissions campaign at ITMO University has come to a close; the lists of students admitted to Bachelor’s and Master’s programs have been published (links are in Russian). This year’s Bachelor’s students have, as usual, demonstrated high Unified State Exam (USE) scores. A large share of the newly-admitted Master’s students are graduates of other universities.

ITMO University Enters Academic Ranking of World Universities for the First Time
ITMO University has entered the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), widely known as the Shanghai Ranking. Considered one of the most objective rankings, it takes into account the universities’ bibliometric indexes and the prevalence of prestigious awards among their graduates and staff. ITMO University entered the ranking in the 801-900 position.

ITMO Team Wins at RobotChallenge-2018 in Beijing
The team, which includes school students Vasiliy Dunaev, Daniil Pavlov and Daniil Martynov, and coaches Igor Lositsky and Evgeny Zavarin, won first place in the Freestyle category. Their winning project Clean Arctic is focused on an extensive clean-up effort of the Arctic coast. Teams from 30 countries and 1,500 robots competed with each other in this year’s RobotChallenge in Beijing.

Dire Straits and Silver Linings: a Syrian Student's Journey to ITMO
Hopes crushed, a beautiful ancient city burned to the ground, and yet one man’s dream of an education rises above it all. Youssef is from the city of Aleppo in Syria. His love of languages and desire for an education led him from speaking Arabic and English to French and Russian. He’s now a PhD student at ITMO University, which is home to international students from around the world.

Results of ITMO’s Bachelor Admissions Campaign 2018
The admissions campaign for 2018’s Bachelor’s degree programs has come to a close, and the lists of students admitted into tuition-free positions have been published (link in Russian). As usual, entrants showed high Unified State Exam (USE) scores in subjects related to information technologies and programming. This year’s applicants also had a chance to enroll in a tuition-free position even with a USE score below the requirement thanks to the ITMO.STARS initiative.

MSU Student on Working in Different Laboratories and Doing Internship at ITMO
Alexander Chezhegov, a third-year student at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Physics, took part in the “I am a Professional” competition and the “It’s Your Call!” Winter School that was held at ITMO University last winter. His project focused on creating a hydrophobic coating for solar cells. In July 2018, he did an internship at ITMO’s International Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, where he studied hybrid states of light in low-dimensional quantum materials. In his interview with ITMO.NEWS, he shared his experience of working in different research groups.
