Learning Russian and Making Movies: a Finn's Exchange Semester at ITMO University
A student of the University of Oulu (Finland), Niki Tenhunen is spending this spring semester at ITMO University as an exchange student. Niki is a second-year Bachelor’s student with a major in international business. When he’s not studying, he strolls about the city for hours on end, fights stereotypes about life in Russia and even helps make movies. ITMO Celebrates 404 Day with Festival of Street Art
It’s no coincidence that we celebrate Internet Day on April 4. Error 404, “Page Not Found”, has become a cultural staple; music bands and social projects are named after it, while actual 404 pages become places where web designers express their creativity. ITMO University celebrated the Internet Day in an Art&Science fashion, inviting St. Petersburg’s street artists to show off their skills. Visitors could also try their hand at making street art alongside the pros.

VR/AR Association & ITMO University Spring Kickoff: Trends and Philosophy of Virtual Reality
ITMO University’s Department of Engineering and Computer Graphics, Center of Mixed Reality and Interface Design, the Video360Production project and the VR/AR Association have launched a series of events dedicated to the use of virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies. Discussions will concern not only matters of the industry, but also the deeper aspects of VR as a new paradigm of existence. The first event’s discussions touched upon today’s VR/AR market, “gratuals and ingratuals”, and why philosophy is an integral part of virtual reality.

Startup Pallium Promises Smarter AI
Pallium is a startup working on a platform for rapid learning, safe storage and easy deployment of AI models in a decentralized environment. Pallium is like a "school" where you can train your artificial intelligence or provide data or computing power to teach other AI models in exchange for rewards. Rewards are tokens that can be spent on training other models or withdrawn through an exchange. Dean of Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics Anton Pyrkin Named “Professor of the Year”
Last Monday the awards ceremony for the “Professor of the Year” award in natural science was held. The award is given out by the Russian Professor Council and St. Petersburg State University. Anton Pyrkin, Dean of ITMO’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics was this year’s winner of the title. As an ITMO graduate, he had worked in the industry before returning to his alma mater to work in academia. He spoke to ITMO.NEWS about robotics in the early 2000’s, how science can be more exciting than business and what modern education should teach about technology.
