METANANO-2018 Conference: How to Participate and What to Expect
The International Conference on Metamaterials and Nanophotonics METANANO 2018 will be held for the third time on September 17-21 in Sochi. Scientists from all around the world will come together to discuss the latest scientific discoveries and achievements; approximately half of the event’s guests will come from foreign universities and research centers. The METANANO conference is becoming increasingly popular due to its large scientific scope. This leads to more interdisciplinary research and, therefore, more practical applications are made for theoretical inventions.

Digital Humanities: Education in 21st Century
Modern information technologies are helping linguists, sociologists, culturologists and art experts quickly complete tasks that would have taken them years otherwise. New tools don’t just make things easier, but offer a new outlook on the challenges faced by researchers in humanities. Antonina Puchkovskaya, a teacher at ITMO’s Foreign Languages Department, has recently returned from a trip to New York where she held a workshop titled “How to Make Your Humanities Course More Digital: the Syllabus Redesign” as part of the NYC Digital Humanities Week. ITMO Graduate’s Startup Uses Neural Networks to Make Online Ads Useful
ITMO graduate Vitaly Sotnikov’s startup NativeOS provides a way to automate native video advertising. The algorithm chooses which videos to embed the client’s advertisements in so that they fit the needs of its viewers. NativeOS is currently preparing for a full-on launch on the US market. Vitaly Sotnikov came to his alma mater on business – and found time to talk to ITMO.NEWS about his project and how it works.

ITMO Professor Emeritus Yuri Kivshar Among Winners of Web of Science Awards 2017
The Web of Science Awards 2017 were presented in Moscow to scientists and scientific organizations for their contribution to science. Sixteen Russian scientists received awards, including Yuri Kivshar, research director of ITMO’s Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials and a professor of the Australian National University.

SCAMT Lab's Anna Fakhardo Talks Nanobots and Cancer Research
How does the nation’s top IT university develop biotechnologies? By bringing in the right researchers! Anna Fakhardo, a second-year PhD student at ITMO’s International Laboratory “Solution Chemistry of Advanced Materials and Technologies” (SCAMT), is one of the first to initiate biological research at the lab. The young scientist also oversees two projects as part of the Pharma 2020 federal program, which both include pre-clinical trials. In late 2017, she became the recipient of the SCAMT Achievement Award. ITMO.NEWS spoke to Anna about her research.
