ITMO Researchers Create Model to Demonstrate What Happens During Microbiota Transplantation Genome-Wise
Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been successfully used in treating metabolic and intestinal diseases. Even though the procedure shows high effectiveness, its mechanism remains unclear. To that end, scientists from ITMO University and the Federal Research and Clinical Center of Physical-Chemical Medicine (Russian Federal Medical Biological Agency) carried out an extensive study on post-FMT patients, during which they figured out how the intestinal microbiota changes under FMT and how its composition correlates with donor microbiota.

From Theory to Practice: How ITMO Scientists Created a Wireless Compact Device for Breast Screening
Breast cancer is one of the most widespread oncological diseases and one of the most dangerous for women overall: 685,000 died of it last year alone. The best way to save a life is to detect and treat the tumor at the early stages of the disease. That’s why scientists from all over the world keep working on increasing the efficiency of MRI and researchers from ITMO University are no exception.

ITMO Researchers Develop Special Ink For Anti-Counterfeiting Protection
Scientists from ITMO University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, and the University of Toronto have developed a gel ink that emits light when exposed to monochromatic radiation of various wavelengths. This makes it possible to create complex images when applying tags to products – the scientists believe that the level of anti-counterfeiting protection offered by their invention is much higher than that of the existing counterparts. The research received support from a Russian Science Foundation and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education grant.
