Startup Pallium Promises Smarter AI
Pallium is a startup working on a platform for rapid learning, safe storage and easy deployment of AI models in a decentralized environment. Pallium is like a "school" where you can train your artificial intelligence or provide data or computing power to teach other AI models in exchange for rewards. Rewards are tokens that can be spent on training other models or withdrawn through an exchange. ITMO Students’ Project Cryptopus Helps Cryptocurrency Investors Reduce Risks
According to CoinMarketCap, in December of 2017, the total value of the cryptocurrency market finally surpassed $500 billion. The cryptocurrency market is currently inferior only to the world’s five biggest public companies – Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook. The past year was also marked by a rapid growth in the number of cryptocurrency exchanges, which continue to attract new users. But how does a newcomer make money on cryptocurrency, save the investors’ money and avoid scammers? Having experienced failure with cryptocurrency himself, ITMO student Alexandr Romanov founded the blockchain marketplace Cryptopus, which aims to establish a network of relationships between investors and traders. The project’s creators spoke to ITMO.NEWS about its features and development.

Blockchain Community Meetup: What Is Mining About?
ITMO University recently hosted the 7th meetup of the St. Petersburg community of blockchain developers - the city’s largest professional community headed by Sberbank employee and ITMO graduate Dmitriy Plakhov. During the event, specialists shared about some of the peculiarities of working with blockchain systems. The event also announced the launching of ITMO’s new Blockchain Campus - an open space where anyone would be able to get the resources necessary for conducting projects in the field of blockchain.

Ilya Nikiforov, Founder Of TeachMePlease, On Blockchain in Education
15 years ago, Ilya Nikiforov studied at ITMO University at the Department of Mechatronics, then in the Faculty of Computer Graphics and Internet Technology. As a person who has studied at different educational institutions, Ilya knows a lot about the Russian educational system. As of now, the former student is head of Teach Me Please - an ambitious project that will soon become one of the first platforms to introduce blockchain in the field of education. ITMO.NEWS talked to Ilya about such issues as how employers perceive a potential candidates’ diploma, why it is necessary to write honest resumes, how can one substantiate them and how blockchain can help with it.

ITMO Graduate on Helping Develop Cardano’s ADA Cryptocurrency
ITMO Graduate Arseniy Seroka’s company Serokell has participated in the development of IOHK’s blockchain project Cardano and the associated cryptocurrency ADA. The currency’s capitalization, i.e. its overall value, has already risen above 2 billion USD. ITMO.NEWS spoke to Arseniy to find out what makes Cardano different from all the other blockchain systems and what advantages cryptocurrencies have over regular currency.

RAISON Developers on Using AI for Financial Analysis
On November 11 to 14, the d10e conference on financial technologies was held in Davos, Switzerland. Among the topics were FinTech, ICO, blockchain, sharing economy. RAISON, a project by ITMO’s small innovative enterprise “Intellectual Information Systems” (IIS) and Threesixty Elements S.A. was presented there. In the near future, RAISON will become an investor’s pocket assistant: the system analyses the market, news and historical data to advise users on investment strategies. The project is based on elements of the AI system AKIL.IO developed by IIS. Denis Zhuk, AKIL.IO’s sales manager and PhD student at ITMO, and Andrey Gordeychuk, head of IIS, talk about RAISON and the integration of new technologies into the investment ecosystem.

Science Fest 2017: Space, Big Data and VR
Last weekend, yet another Science Fest took place in St. Petersburg. As this time the event was hosted at the recently-opened planetarium, guests were able to watch full-dome popular science films about space and space exploration. Adherents of “hard” science could also attend lectures on modern technology, the capabilities of hybrid intelligence and Big Data, while those who thrive for new experiences could try out VR apps and see a hologram of R2-D2 at ITMO University’s interactive zone.

ITMO University Hosts GoTo Project School
Each school break, the GoTo programming project school holds sessions in different parts of Russia, bringing together talented school and university students. At such events, they are given the opportunity to work on projects in such fields as data analysis, machine learning, industrial programming, IoT, bioinformatics, distributed systems and blockchain. GoTo’s autumn session at ITMO University involved 50 university students and highschoolers from all around the country. The participants developed individual projects under the guidance of experts from leading IT companies, and attended lectures and workshops by the school’s teachers and guest speakers.
