  • Admission Campaign 2019 at ITMO University: Bachelor’s Programs

    The 2019 admissions campaign for Bachelor’s degree programs has come to an end at ITMO University, and the list of students admitted into tuition-free positions has been published. Entrants have demonstrated traditionally high exam scores in the fields related to information technologies and programming. This year, talented students from all over Russia also had the opportunity to enroll in one of the University’s programs regardless of low exam scores through the ITMO.STARS program.

  • 15 Talented Prospective Students Become Winners of 2019 ITMO.STARS Unique Achievements Contest

    The results of this year’s ITMO.STARS – a competition for prospective students with unique accomplishments – are in, with 15 participants being awarded free tuition at ITMO University’s program of their choice and the number of application doubling from last year’s. Launched in 2018, the initiative aims to offer talented and motivated high schoolers an opportunity to enroll at ITMO even if their Unified State Exam scores wouldn’t normally allow them to.

  • International Competitions, Research, and Conferences: the First Year of ITMO.STARS

    Last year, ITMO University launched ITMO.STARS, a program for talented prospective students with insufficient Unified State Exam scores. Instead, the applicants could prove their mettle by showcasing their self-made software, methodology, or a scientific, social, or business project. In 2018, the University enrolled 14 winners of ITMO.STARS. We spoke to some of them to learn about their first year at ITMO.

  • Congress of Young Scientists Participant Yaroslav Kapustin: Had I Not Worked on My Own Projects, I Never Would Have Learned What I Know

    How do you transfer data and communicate without an internet connection? Yaroslav Kapustin, a student of St. Petersburg’s school No. 225 and a participant of the Congress of Young Scientists, has presented a project that lets its users connect digital devices into a unified data network in the absence of mobile connection. Yaroslav spoke with ITMO.NEWS about his project Radio Chain and how he was able to develop his own projects and win at hackathons while still in school.

  • Changing the World: New ITMO Student’s Star Project

    Ekaterina Mashina didn’t get enough Unified State Exam points to enter ITMO University, but still enrolled thanks to the ITMO.STARS contest with her IBolit project. This initiative aims to combine the efforts of students and staff from ITMO University, Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University, St. Petersburg State University and Moscow State University for achieving a noble goal: the creation of a system for providing highly qualified premedical care in Russia’s outlying regions. ITMO.NEWS interviewed the student about the details of her project and her plans for the future.

  • ITMO.STARS Winners Share Their Experience

    This year marked the first time when ITMO University launched ITMO.STARS, a contest for talented and motivated school students willing to enter ITMO University. There was only one condition: you have to get the minimal Unified State Exam score and be ready to present the result of your own research, social, or business project to the contest committee. 14 school students from different Russian cities became winners and got the opportunity to study at ITMO for free. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, they talk about the professions of the future, as well as share their advice on how to learn programming in a small town, and how to pluck up your courage to apply for a contest.

This year’s Bachelor’s students have, as usual, demonstrated high Unified State Exam (USE) scores. A large share of the newly-admitted Master’s students are graduates of other universities.

Over the course of five weeks, the contest committee assessed projects and interviewed successful candidates. A total of 14 participants got an opportunity to study at ITMO University for free.

  • ITMO.STARS: Exclusive Way to Join ITMO University.

    Is it possible to study at ITMO University for free without having enough Unified State Exam points for enrolling in a state-sponsored position? Starting with the 2018 admission campaign, it sure is! Applicants with unique achievements and strong motivation now get a chance to get their education paid for by ITMO University -  all they have to do is submit their portfolios and motivation letters for the ITMO.STARS contest. The winners will be determined by the beginning of August.
