  • Voting Begins as ITMO Highpark Exhibition Opens in St. Petersburg

    From November 22 till December 15, 2018, an exhibition of concept designs for ITMO University’s new campus and innovations center Highpark will be hosted in the ITMO building at Lomonosova St. 9. Students, staff and guests can learn about each of the four architectural proposals and cast their vote by filling out a form on the spot or taking the online survey.

  • Top Russian and European Firms Present Concept Designs for ITMO Highpark

    On November 17, the first session of ITMO Highpark’s international expert council was held as part of the 7th St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum. The discussion revolved around proposed architectural and planning solutions for ITMO University’s innovative new campus in the Yuzhny satellite city, in the Pushkinsky District of St. Petersburg. Design concepts were showcased by bureaus from the UK, the Netherlands, Austria and Russia. After reviewing the proposals, the international expert council is expected to pick one that will determine the future look of ITMO Highpark.

  • Student Wins Lab Design Competition

    ITMO University student Veronika Nikitina became one of the winners of a laboratory design competition which took place at ITMO University as part of an International Laboratory Design Conference. She presented her project at the Skolkovo Innovation Center.

  • ITMO University Developing New Design System

    All of ITMO University’s online resources will soon be united by a common style; this year, the university’s UI/UX design team has begun the development of its own design system. Its introduction will increase the university’s brand recognizability as well as shorten the time needed to create websites and landing pages for its many departments, says Marina Kholodova, head of UI/UX Design at ITMO University. In the first stage, the project team will provide a landing-creation tool for internal customers. In the future, this will let university staff create and edit landing pages for various events on their own.

  • ITMO Graduate’s Project Wins Lexus Design Award

    Nadejda Abdullina, graduate of ITMO’s Institute of Design & Urban  Studies,  and her team have won the Lexus Design Award 2018 Russia Тор Choice with their project Grabby: a cutting board for people with disabilities. This year’s topic was “Co-” - combining design and functionality; the prize was a trip to Milan Design Week 2018. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Nadejda talked about how she won the prestigious contest with little experience in industrial design.

  • ITMO Students Take Part In Experimental Interaction Design Summer School

    From June 17 to June 28, the Experimental Interaction Design summer school took place at Tallinn University of Technology. This year, healthy lifestyle was the main theme of its courses. Anna Filippova and Anna Ksenofontova, Master's students at ITMO's Department of Engineering and Computer Graphics, took part in the school's programs and developed prototypes of devices meant for relieving the modern sedentary lifestyle.   • EVA Saint-Petersburg: New Applications Of VR/AR Technologies

    Last week, ITMO University hosted the annual EVA SAINT PETERSBURG Electronic Imaging & the Visual Arts international conference organized by ITMO's Design and Multimedia Center and the Department of Engineering and Computer Graphics. The event itself was a discussion platform for both technical and non-technical scientists where they discussed different cases of combining culture and technology. One of the major topics was the use of VR and AR technologies for promotion of culture and arts.

  • Art&Science: Optical Devices In Fine Arts And Design's Role In Evolution

    ​Last Saturday, the final "Art&Science: Art, Science, Museum" open lecture took place at the General Staff Building of the State Hermitage Museum. The project, supervised by ITMO University and staff from the State Hermitage Museum, has been around for nine months; during each of its events, leading international experts presented research in the field of art and science. This time, the speakers were Charles M. Falco from the University of Arizona and Paola Antonelli, Director of R&D at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York City.   • Clean Slate: How to Fight Illegal Ads Through Blogging and Make Graffiti a Form of Fine Art

    The case-tournament LeaderCup Legal Ads took place at the “Boiling Point” creative space organized by Russian Agency for Strategic Initiatives. It was dedicated to fighting unauthorized advertisements and illegal graffiti in St. Petersburg. 10 teams made up of 150 local students proposed more than 50 various solutions to solve the issues related to maintaining the Northern Capital’s refined image. ITMO University’s students who took part in the tournament have secured the second place. ITMO.NEWS spoke with their members and found out more about how everyone can help against illegal advertising and graffiti.
