  • ITMO and University of Bologna Cooperate in Science and Education

    How is recycling organized in Italy, what is transition engineering all about, and how can its principles be applied to the operation of Russian companies in order to form a really effective recycling management system? Anastasia Pavlova, senior lecturer at the Department of Industrial Ecology and Safety, is working on a project that manages raw materials and wastes from the food industry, which answers these questions. She recently won an Italian government grant and has gone to the University of Bologna - the country's second largest university and the oldest educational establishment in Europe. In the course of her internship, not only does Anastasia plan to study Italian practices, but also enhance cooperation with Italian universities.

  • City of Professions: Career Day at ITMO University

    Last week, ITMO University hosted a major career event - ITMO.City of Professions. This time, 40 participating companies prepared a 5-hours long interactive program for the university’s students and graduates, as well as offered internships and employment for entry-level positions. It has also become the first event of this kind for which the university’s specialists developed a dedicated application - the interactive online map of the city that helps to find a particular company and learn about the positions it offers. ITMO.City of Professions covered five major professional fields: IT, management and innovations science, food industry and biotechnologies, robotics and engineering, and photonics. Apart from the companies that had already taken part in ITMO’s career events before (Sberbank, Sberbank-Technologies, Delovie Linii, Diakont, Veenam and others), several new employers offered students jobs this time.   • ITMO Student Wins Eiffel Excellence Scholarship

    A list of recipients of the 2018 Eiffel Excellence Scholarship has recently been published, and Daria  Kuznetcova , a postgraduate student at the Department of Applied Biotechnology, is among the 60 doctorate applicants awarded the scholarship. Participation in the program provides young scientists an opportunity to conduct their research in collaboration with leading French experts in their field. Daria's current research concerns functional foods that can be used to prevent the development of neurodegenerative diseases. ITMO.NEWS asked Daria some questions about her project.

  • Master’s Exchange Students on Learning Lighting Design in Copenhagen

    Making a cramped square feel comfortable, improving lives of medical patients and helping school students study better: students from Aalborg University (Denmark) use light to solve these and other tasks. This Scandinavian country is home to more than the concept of hygge – it is also one of the major European centers for modern art; here, lighting design projects aren’t limited to just museums and art spaces, but are actually becoming a part of the urban environment. Valeria Lukinskaya and Dmitry Chukhin, Master’s students at ITMO’s Higher School of Lighting Design, learned about the best practices and approaches in lighting design during an internship at Aalborg University.

  • ITMO Master’s Student on E-governance in Estonia and Interning at Tallinn University of Technology

    Imagine not having to go anywhere to vote in  the elections, or having an ID card that you can use to make an appointment at the doctor’s or pay for parking online. This is how it’s done in Estonia, which now boasts one of the world’s best e-government systems; tellingly, the country is often dubbed “e-Estonia” due to the state of its digitalization. Yaroslava Tensina, Master’s student at ITMO’s Department of State Information Systems Management, learned about Estonia’s e-government practices during her recent internship at the Tallinn University of Technology. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, she spoke about the peculiarities of studying in Estonia and how proper management of information systems can help fight bureaucracy.

  • Exchange semester in France: a Life-Changing Experience

    Maria Garets, a student at the Department of Intelligent Technologies in Humanities at ITMO University, spent her winter semester at Eurecom, a graduate school and research centre in communication systems established by one of the top French universities, Telecom ParisTech.   • Internships in Belgium: How to Apply and What to Expect

    Elena Eremeeva and Daniil Ilatovskiy are Master's students at ITMO's SCAMT laboratory who have recently completed internships at universities in Belgium. They had an opportunity to use new equipment there as well as become acquainted with how research work is conducted in Europe. This experience will help them to better organize their research and improve the operation of the entire SCAMT (Solution Chemistry of Advanced Materials and Technologies) Laboratory. The students were able to take part in the internships thanks to academic mobility competitions organized by the university.

  • Generation Z: Who Are They?

    We don’t know much about Generation Z, since they are those born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s and now they are just graduating from college and entering the workforce. But these young people differ in many significant ways from their predecessors.     The contest for getting funding for internships in Russia and abroad conducted by ITMO’s Academic Mobility Support Office gives students an opportunity to go on internships that take up to one month. Such events can be of different formats - internships, conferences, summer and winter schools, seminars, symposiums, and any other kinds of educational and research activities that are conducted in collaboration with other universities and research centers.
