  • ITMO University’s Accelerator and MTS Launch an Online Program for 5G Developers

    ITMO University and MTS, one of the largest Russian telecommunication companies and a digital services provider,  are launching a new program for the 5G track. It’s meant for the residents of ITMO University’s Accelerator: for technological entrepreneurs who, after completing the program, can become MTS 5G Center’s residents in Moscow and receive a grant for the development of solutions in this field.

    Founded by ITMO University and Boston University College of Engineering professors, The MerkleBot company has headquarters in Silicon Valley and a developer office in St. Petersburg.   • Digitalization of Construction, Helping Dyslexic Kids and an Online Training Bot: The Graduates of ITMO’s Pre-Accelerator

    ITMO University’s Pre-Accelerator program ended recently. Participants went from an idea to an actual business project over four months of work. The twenty best teams presented their products at the open Demo Day. The jury members – experts and business representatives – evaluated the projects in terms of thoroughness and potential and chose the top three projects.   • ITMO Grad and AI Factory Co-Founder Greg Tkachenko: Startups Are the Cure for Burnout

    Greg Tkachenko graduated with a Master's degree from ITMO University's Information Technologies and Programming Faculty in 2017, but he achieved his first professional successes while still a student. As a second-year student, Greg, along with a few other students of the Computer Technologies Department, was invited to take part in an internship at Yandex, where he spent almost two and a half years. Then, he received offers from Mail.ru Group and Facebook, which he turned down to work on the startup AI Factory, which he co-founded with Alexander Mashrabov and Victor Shaburov. In December 2019, the company was acquired by Snapchat’s parent company Snap for $166 million. Greg Tkachenko sat down for a chat with ITMO.NEWS and told us where to find ideas for your tech startup and how to deal with failure.

  • ITMO Pre-Acceleration Program in 2019: 50+ Projects, 11 Expert Coaches, 5 Million Rubles in Funding

    In the past year, ITMO University has redefined its approach to acceleration programs for hi-tech startups. A pre-acceleration program was launched with the goal of assisting scientists and tech enthusiasts who have ideas but are far from implementing them in practice or creating an actual product. Nevertheless, three projects have already gone the distance from ideas to full-on contracts with investors, raising over five million rubles in total. ITMO.NEWS got in touch with Alexey Solomatin, the head of the ITMO Accelerator, to find out what he thought of the past year, which achievements of these 12 months he considers the most important, and what he’s got in plans for the future.

  • Resident of ITMO Technopark Included in Top-3 of SLUSH Festival

    The SLUSH festival, one of the biggest startup events in Europe, has recently ended in Helsinki, Finland. Several of ITMO University’s Technopark residents took part in the event. For them, it was an opportunity to present their projects, attract potential investors and familiarize themselves with their counterparts’ work. A total of three companies collaborating with ITMO University received awards from the jury.   • What Russian Startups Bring to Japan

    The St. Petersburg Expoforum is currently hosting the 12th St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum. During the first day of the event, a roundtable discussion was held on the topic of Russian-Japanese economic relations. The discussion was organized by ITMO University, ITMO Highpark, and the investment service SAMI.   • ITMO Technopark and Highpark Launch Pre-Accelerator Program

    ITMO Technopark launched the Pre-accelerator educational program for St. Petersburg entrepreneurs. The course was created in collaboration with ITMO Highpark for the purpose of helping startupers in the early stages. In the course of three months, its participants will be testing their ideas, developing business models, finding consumers and creating the MVP, a minimum viable product for entering the market.
