  • Gennady Korotkevich Becomes Three-Time Winner of Facebook Hacker Cup

    In late October, the Facebook Hacker Cup 2019 open championship in programming came to an end at Facebook’s Dublin headquarters. ITMO’s PhD student Gennady Korotkevich, who won the championship in 2014 and 2015, has become its champion for the third time. In the final round, the programmer solved all six tasks faster than his competitors.

  • Open Doors Competition for Tuition-Free Master’s Studies in Russia: ITMO to Coordinate Computer & Data Science Track

    The organizing committee of the Open Doors international competition has announced the start of the qualification round, which is a portfolio contest, for international prospective Master’s students wanting to study in Russia. 2019 will be the third year that the competition has been hosted. ITMO.NEWS met with Polina Petrusha, Advisor to First Vice Rector, to find out how many winners of last year’s Open Doors enrolled at ITMO, what is needed to pass the portfolio round, and how this year’s competition will differ from the previous ones.

  • Fort Boyard: ITMO University Hosts Information Security Quest

    ITMO University and The Institute of Cryptography, Telecommunications and Computer Science of the Academy of the Federal Security Service of Russia have hosted an information security quest for St. Petersburg school students. Gathered at ITMO’s Lomonosova St. 9 campus, the participants were taught about data protection and encryption in the game format. ITMO.NEWS braved the quest alongside the students to find out about the simplest ways of encrypting a letter and tricks to detect hidden cameras.

  • ITMO University Students Will Represent Russia at CyBRICS Winter School

    The final round of the CyBRICS international competition in the field of computer security initiated by ITMO University has recently come to an end. The event united the best teams from Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa, who competed for the right to participate in the CyBRICS winter school, which will take place in St. Petersburg this winter. An ITMO.NEWS correspondent met with the event’s organizers to find out more about the competition and sports hacking.

  • ITMO University Students Win The Largest Hackathon in History

    On September 27-29, the Russian city of Kazan hosted the final round of the Digital Breakthrough competition for IT specialists, designers, and managers in the field of the digital economy. This event was included in the Guinness Book of Records thanks to the record number of participants. Among the winners were ITMO University students: Kirill Pugin, a student at Information Technologies and Programming Faculty, and Valeria Timofeeva, a Master’s student at the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, the students share about the competition and their plans for the future.

  • New ICPC Tournaments Season Kicks Off, With 31 ITMO Teams in Regional Top-100

    The new season of ICPC, the oldest and the most prestigious international programming competition, has recently kicked off. This year, for the first time ever, the competition in the Northwestern Federal District of Russia, which ITMO University competes in, started with a qualification round.   • Registration Opens for "I Am a Professional" Competition

    The official opening ceremony of the “I am a Professional” international student competition took place in Moscow on October 2. The third season of one of the key projects of the “Russia – the country of opportunities” platform was launched by last year’s winners in collaboration with First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia Sergey Kiriyenko. The contest is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
