  • CEO of TuSion on Participating in Startup Festivals

    TuSion is a neurogaming app that helps users develop their cognitive abilities by playing with the power of their minds. The app allows to decrease one’s level of stress and increase productivity. In the past, the team participated in ITMO’s Future Technologies accelerator. Since then, the project has undergone many changes, and its team has participated in many startup festivals and contests. Their members have recently returned from the *ship international festival in Finland where they made it into to the 10 best startup teams, and will soon participate in an acceleration program in New York. We’ve spoken to TuSion’s CEO Andrei Hapsasov and learned how the project changed over time, whether there is any point in participating in contests and conferences, and how to participate effectively.

    Maria Renee Marroquín Pineda has recently finished the first year of her Master’s studies at ITMO’s Cryogenic Technology Department. Before entering ITMO University, she spent four years studying ecology at Tver campus of Moscow Humanitarian Economic University (MHEU). Having spent five years in Russia, the Guatemalan student decided to launch her own business in the field of cryogenic technologies.   • Cindicator: A Startup To Ease You Way Into Cryptocurrency Markets

Last year, Cindicator raised $15,000,000 of investments through the means of initial coin offering (ICO).   • Heaven for Startups: Russian and Finnish Experts Discuss Helsinki Business Culture

    How does a startup enter the European market via Finland? How should you present your project to foreign investors? What are the differences between the business community in Helsinki and those in other European cities? Novice entrepreneurs from St. Petersburg found answers to these and other questions during the Helsinki Business Boost, a business course launched by ITMO’s Technopark, Helsinki Centre representative office and Venture Family consulting agency. Participants received personal advice from experts, while the winners received tickets to Arctic 15, a business contacts exchange for startups in the Nordic and Baltic countries, which will take place in Helsinki on May 30-31.

  • University of Memphis’ Zabihollah Rezaee on Sustainability and Ethics in Business

    Professor Zabihollah Rezaee, the Thompson-Hill Chair of Excellence and PhD coordinator at the University of Memphis (USA), has given a series of lectures on the topic “Sustainable Business Development, Corporate Management and Professional Ethics” at ITMO University’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations. Master’s and PhD students had the unique opportunity to do a two-week international internship without leaving St. Petersburg and attend the course offered at the world’s top universities. Prof. Rezaee spoke to ITMO.NEWS about his course, the growing importance of professional ethics and how networking made him come to Russia.

  • The Finals of the GenerationS TechNet Track Start in St. Petersburg

    The final round of the GenerationS TechNet Track started at ITMO University last Thursday. The best startups will compete for the prize of 1 million rubles. 12 startups from several Russian cities take part in the competition. The final round will last for ten days, and after that the participants will present the results of their work to experts from industry, venture funds and the Innovation Support Fund.

  • Manage! Cup Semifinals: Participants Share

    Just imagine that you get to manage a company, and all of its management has just been dismissed? You only have the enterprise's financial data, and you have to choose the optimal strategy that will enhance its investment appeal. What’s more, you only have a day to solve this task, and you don’t know anyone on the team you’ll be working with! These are the kinds of tasks that the participants of the Manage! cup, a countrywide management tournament for students, have to solve. The cup’s semifinals have just taken place in St. Petersburg; the 30 best teams were chosen to participate in the finals in Moscow on March 11-12. The tournament’s winners will be offered internships at the country's leading companies,  as well as the opportunity to participate in Global Management Challenge - a national business management championship.

  • How to Start Your Own Business: Advice from Experts

    ITMO University just hosted an expert session for hardware, high-tech and IT projects of the Future Technologies accelerator. This year, a record-breaking amount of participants made it to the final selection - 25 teams in total. Up until March, they’ll be finalizing their technologies, choosing and testing business models, studying their target audiences and making their first sales. Recently, the novice entrepreneurs’ projects were assessed by experts - founders and CEO’s of companies, specialists on growing markets, the financial sector and marketing. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, they’ve shared about why most startups face common problems, the usual mistakes novice startupers face, and what there is to expect from 2018 in terms of promising technologies.

  • ITMO University Partners Up With TRA Robotics

    In mid-October, a project by Ivan Borisov, Oleg Borisov, Vladislav Gromov and under the supervision of Sergei Kolubin won the pitch session of Robotics & AI program which took place at Moscow’s Phystechpark as part of the annual GoTech forum. The PhD students presented a multipurpose gripping unit that remedies the key weaknesses ofexisting industrial robots and bested 80 other applicants with it. The British company TRA Robotics, a partner of the forum, got interested in the project and entered an agreement on a pilot project with ITMO University. Recently, the company and the university entered a new, long-term collaboration agreement.
