  • ITMO Graduate Releases AR App For Speech Therapists

    Recent years have seen an increase in the number of speech disorder diagnoses, including minor ones that can be alleviated with timely speech therapy. Anastasia Pivovarova, an ITMO alumna, has developed an interactive AR app to assist speech therapists in their classes with pre-school children. The app is currently undergoing testing at an educational center in St. Petersburg.

  • ITMO Scientists Create Improved Optical Module for AR Devices

    Researchers from ITMO have used volume holography to develop an optical module that is resistant to chemical damage, physical impact, and extreme temperatures. This module, called a combiner, can be used to create industrial-purpose AR glasses or to project interfaces directly onto the windshields of cars and airplanes. Unlike its counterparts, the device is single-layered, which makes it lighter and prevents glare. The project is supported by the Priority 2030 program.

  • ITMO Staff Develop AR-Solution for WorldSkills Kazan 2019 Opening Ceremony

    On August 22-27, the city of Kazan hosted the 45th competition for young professionals, which brought together 1,300 participants from 63 countries. In addition to musical performances and lighting effects, the grandiose opening ceremony involved unique AR effects developed by specialists from ITMO University.   • HAKORA: Building a Business in the Field of AR

    HAKORA is an AR platform with a ready mobile solution that allows to visualize any products in real-time mode. Roman Shiplyakov, ITMO Master’s student from the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations, and Oleg Borovskiy, Master's student from St. Petersburg State University of Economics founded the startup two years ago, and now work in different segments of the market (medicine, retail, development, education, and industry) by helping companies solve their main task: tell their clients about their services in a most demonstrative and entertaining manner. Among HAKORA's clients are renowned brands, construction companies, and the St. Petersburg city administration.   • VR and the Future of Digital Art: The Fourth International Animation Assembly in St. Petersburg

    In late October, the St. Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design hosted the Fourth International Animation Assembly. One of this year’s main topics of roundtable discussions, lectures and workshops was the use of digital technologies. ITMO University showcased virtual reality tech in a special demo area at the event.   • Science Fest 2017: Space, Big Data and VR

    Last weekend, yet another Science Fest took place in St. Petersburg.  As  this time the event was hosted at the recently-opened planetarium, guests were able to watch full-dome popular science films about space and space exploration. Adherents of “hard” science could also attend lectures on modern technology, the capabilities of hybrid intelligence and Big Data, while those who thrive for new experiences could try out VR apps and see a hologram of R2-D2 at ITMO University’s interactive zone.
