  • ITMO’s Chess Team Places Second at World InterUniversities Championships in Croatia

    On November 13-17, the city of Pula (Croatia) hosted the 5th World InterUniversities Championships, which saw students compete in a wide range of sports. ITMO University was represented by two teams vying for the main prize in the tennis and chess categories. In the team event, ITMO’s chess players managed to win silver in the prestigious competition. ITMO.NEWS met the team’s members to talk about their experience and being part of the university’s chess club.


  • ITMO University Held Russia’s First ICPC Alum Reunion

    Last Saturday, ITMO University held Russia’s first reunion of alumni of the international student programming contest ICPC. The event brought together winners and participants of the previous ICPC rounds, as well as representatives of international IT companies, organizers of regional competitions, judges, coaches and volunteers that have helped with the organization of the contest over the years. The meeting was organized by the ICPC Foundation, which works to create an association of ICPC participants from all over the world, and supported by the company Huawei. Participating as an honorary guest was Bill Poucher, executive director of ICPC.


  • Winter Universiade Participant Vadim Shvedov on Maths and Curling

    The 29th Winter Universiade has recently ended in Krasnoyarsk. This event, which takes place once in every two years, is often called the Olympics for young people. ITMO University student Vadim Shvedov participated in its curling competitions held on March 2-10. Upon his return from Krasnoyarsk, he spoke to ITMO.NEWS about the difficulties their team had to face, and how knowledge in the field of advanced mathematics helps play curling.


  • ITMO’s Futsal Team Wins National Championship

    Earlier this May, Moscow hosted the 10th Universities Futsal Championship. This year, 120 teams of 1610 students took part in the final round, a record number of participants for a student sports competition in Russia. The men's futsal team from ITMO University took the first place among 60 teams in the Silver League, while the university's women's team secured the fifth place among 40 teams in the Silver League. We talked to Vladimir Nakhratov, the coach of the university's futsal team, about futsal at ITMO University.
