International AR & VR Conference Wrap Up: Virtual Museums and Remakes of Soviet Games
In mid-August, the Tochka Kipeniya (Boiling Point) platform based at St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation hosted the International Conference of Augmented and Virtual Reality Technologies in Creative Industries. The event was held within the cross-border cooperation program Interreg Baltic Sea Region 2014-2020.

ITMO Accelerator Graduate Gets $10 Million to Prevent Road Accidents
The St. Petersburg-based project Road Accident Solver, which specializes in the development of road accident analysis and prevention software, has signed a $10 million contract with the Kazakhstan-based company TOO IT Creation. Kazakhstan has one of the world’s highest rates of deaths in traffic incidents, which is why the parties plan to use Road Accident Solver software to reduce the number of accidents and develop smart-city systems.

Its aim was to select promising projects to invest in their development. Three winning projects will receive consulting support from leading experts as well as an opportunity to attract financing.

Staking on Unique: ITMO’s Startup Accelerator Revamps its Approach
This September, ITMO University’s business accelerator Future Technologies has switched to a new working format. Instead of banking on short-term acceleration programs that didn’t fully cater to each individual startup’s distinctive features and needs, FT’s novel plan involves experts and startup teams interacting on a one-on-one basis. There are some changes to the participation rules, too; any project big or small can now apply for the Future Technologies’ resident status and work its way up from developing product prototypes to upscaling the company.

CEO of TuSion on Participating in Startup Festivals
TuSion is a neurogaming app that helps users develop their cognitive abilities by playing with the power of their minds. The app allows to decrease one’s level of stress and increase productivity. In the past, the team participated in ITMO’s Future Technologies accelerator. Since then, the project has undergone many changes, and its team has participated in many startup festivals and contests. Their members have recently returned from the *ship international festival in Finland where they made it into to the 10 best startup teams, and will soon participate in an acceleration program in New York. We’ve spoken to TuSion’s CEO Andrei Hapsasov and learned how the project changed over time, whether there is any point in participating in contests and conferences, and how to participate effectively.

Startups Present Eye-Treatment Neural Network, Physical Therapy Globe at FT Startup Drive
Resident startups of ITMO’s Future Technologies acceleration program have presented their projects at a pitch session for investors, mentors, members of the press and special guests at the event FT Startup Drive. This is a new format of presentation in which the top priority is placed on the quality of the jury and the expert pool as opposed to the number of guests. Participants had the chance to get personal advice from members of the jury and the mentors.

Future Technologies Program: Teams Present Projects at Demo Day
On September 21, as part of the St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum (SPIIF), a Demo Day was held for ITMO Business Incubator’s acceleration program Future Technoogies. Ten teams presented their ideas to the expert jury, special guests and visitors. Over the course of five months, the projects have gone through many stages, from initial prototypes to final products, and acquired market introduction strategies. Visitors of the Forum could learn more about ITMO University’s technological projects at a special exhibition.
