Huawei is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of telecommunications. According to official data, the company’s 2018 profits exceeded the number of 100 billion dollars.

“Huawei has extensive and successful experience of collaborating with universities. This is prompted by our ambition to transform research results into innovative solutions. We attach great importance to our cooperation with ITMO University, which takes place in a wide range of fields, from research in mathematics to software development and creation of AI-based solutions,” commented William Xu, Director of the Board and President of the Institute of Strategic Research at Huawei.

Among other promising prospects for collaboration between the company and the university, Huawei representatives identified such fields as machine learning and big data, wearable devices, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), flexible electronics, metamaterials, human-machine interfaces, as well as AR/VR and cybersecurity technologies.

In the course of their visit to ITMO University, the representatives of Huawei participated in a tour of the International Research Center of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, which included a presentation of achievements and projects by the center’s young scientists. 

According to Gregory Leschenko, Chief Investment Director at Huawei Technologies Russia, investment in startups developing on the basis of the university can be a new addition to the scientific and educational formats of cooperation between Huawei and ITMO.

“Drawing on our long-standing and positive experience of working with Huawei, we see great potential for expanding our cooperation. Priority formats can include both advancement of our collaboration in the field of R&D and commercialization of ITMO’s scientific achievements and their integration into Huawei’s products, which are used all over the world,” shared Anton Gopka, Dean of Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations.
