The national team includes school students from Moscow, Kazan, St. Petersburg, Lipetsk, and Sarov. Every year, its coaches host winter and summer training camps, as well as several preparatory events at the Educational Centre Sirius. Some of the participants are picked to represent the country at international competitions, including IATI. As the teams are well-trained for such competitions, their pre-contest training mainly consists of solving previous years’ tasks.
“This year, the contest’s organizers came up with quite an intriguing set of tasks. They were less experimental – but more complicated. ITMO consistently excels at competitive programming competitions, and our lecturers, students, and graduates have accumulated plenty of experience with such events. That’s why we train school students and promote IT education in general,” says Andrey Stankevich, a coach of the senior national team and the dean of ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.
In 2025, Russian teams at the contest achieved the following results:
- First team – 3 gold medals, 1 silver;
- Second team – 2 gold medals, 2 silver;
- Third team – 2 gold medals, 2 silver;
- Fourth team – 1 gold medal, 3 silver;
- Junior teams – 7 gold medals, 1 silver.
The International Advanced Tournament in Informatics served as a training platform for the Russian national team before the International Olympiad in Informatics. In 2025, the olympiad will be held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3. The Russian team has been bringing home four gold medals each year for three years in a row. The selection for the olympiad will kick off in May 2025.
