Research
Even the most advanced of today’s robots struggle to navigate and interact with physical spaces on their own. Humans, on the other hand, are very adept at perceiving their surroundings and noticing changes in their environments.
Last month, researchers from ITMO’s Laboratory “Embodied AI and Robotics” presented three projects that tackle challenges related to the mechanics of embodied intelligence; namely, the ability of robots to identify various objects, remember them, and track their movements through space and time.

Biocompatibility is a crucial property for any material used in medical applications. In the case of implants, it must also provide a suitable platform for living cells to latch on to – and this combination of qualities can prove tricky to find. Researchers from Russia, the Netherlands, and the USA have jointly produced a software algorithm that automates the search for biodegradable polymers with a surface topography that promotes the growth of cells.
