I’m a true fan of listening to mixes based on my likes and mood and either falling into a sentimentality for the past or exploring something absolutely unexpected. So, from time to time, my playlist gets all over the place and it feels like the best Italian hits can’t really go hand in hand with classic rock of all times – but somehow they do. So, this month I was into ballads and enjoyed The Lady in Red by Chris De Burgh, a slow, emotional, and yearning tune and one of my top favorites. May seem a bit sappy yet it’s heartwarming and moving: definitely a well-deserved classic and worth a listen.

It is a little scary, but this month I will have to share a Russian song – for the first time ever! I got sent this one by my constant supplier of music that I would typically consider "not-my-type" but then would find myself listening to on repeat. This one captured me right from the start with its electronic beat and its well-written, frighteningly relatable lyrics. The certain upbeat melancholy of it continues to marvel me – and I never feel the same when I get to the end of it. Here is Naadia's Спутник (quite a topical title, don’t you think?), enjoy it if you will.

This month, I’m trying to figure out how to talk about complex stuff in a simple way and who does that best? StoryBots! These inquisitive cartoon characters can explain everything from emotions to electricity in a song to a five-year-old. If you can rap it, you can teach it! Here’s really all you need to know about the solar system:

Another delightful journey through my gigantic homeland happened to me this month – we went to Dagestan and completely, irrevocably fell in love with its magnificent nature. The sea, dunes, and endless mountains drove us crazy, and now, having returned to St. Petersburg, I listen to songs that remind me of this trip:
Juan Sebastian
This month I would like to share the admiration and love that I have for an alternative rock group; the name of the group is Depeche Mode. The lyrics of their songs have helped me in difficult moments and have made me enjoy happy moments more. I especially remember this group, since last week I was at a tribute concert, where a Russian group imitated many of their songs. I hope you will enjoy the rhythm and the lyrics as much as I do, with one of their best songs.

I'm still in the process of rediscovering all kinds of stuff I used to listen to a long time ago. For example, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (or DAF) is on this list. They were a highly influential electro duo from Germany. My favourites are songs like Der Raeuber und der Prinz and Als wär's das letzte Mal. Unfortunately, one of the band members (Gabi Delgado-Lopez) hase passed away last spring, but Robert Görl, the second half of DAF, continues to work on the album they intended to complete together, and has also released a new song dedicated to Gabi – Ich Denk An Dich.
