Over the past week, Russian Twitter has been taken over by a “sofa” flash mob. Having bonded with their own sofa for a while now, people google their name + a word “диван” (sofa) and discover what kind of couch they could have been (or maybe still can).
Apparently it just so happens that many sofas in Russia have popular male and female names in their description, so most people will find their true match, and might even have a choice of price range, a folding mechanism, and an extra storage compartment. Some have tried looking up their nicknames and have come up with revealing choices as well.
“In a world of sofas I’m a little scary but soft and affordable,” writes @natalia_splin about her couch “Natasha”.
“I’m a couch that doesn’t fit anywhere,” writes @nufrolofff about a somewhat artistic piece.
There’s a lot you can learn about yourself from your description as a sofa. Mine “boasts a simple silhouette accented with windowpane tufting along the cushioned back (love this part!), plus angled, tapered legs made from solid wood.” Spin class, here I come.
Even the Russian soccer team joined the flash mob and posted the couches it’s made out of. They would know.
