• New Plant-Based Drug Testing System to Help Cut Down on Animal Testing

  In the fall of 2019, Aleksandra Predeina, then a first-year Master’s student at ITMO came to Vladimir Vinogradov, head of ITMO’s SCAMT Institute and expressed a desire to make an art & science research project. Two and a half years later, this collaboration has resulted in a unique testing system for nanopharmaceuticals that will make it possible to significantly cut down on animal testing. • ITMO Youth Robotics Team Outshine All at RoboCup Asia-Pacific 2021

  Friendly Friends, the team of ITMO’s Youth Robotics Lab, and their robot musician Robert Robotecky placed first at RoboCup Asia-Pacific 2021. At the tournament final, the robot performed Sous le Ciel de Paris and Blue Canary while riding a hoverboard.

• ITMO Highpark to Become Connected to St. Petersburg’s Water Supply Network

  The Vodokanal of St. Petersburg (the city’s main water utilities enterprise – Ed.) has begun the final stage of connecting ITMO Highpark to centralized cold water supply and disposal systems; as of now, the associated works are 80% done. As part of their efforts, the state utilities company’s specialists will install over 41 kilometers of engineering infrastructure.

• ‘Universities Must Maintain a Dialogue:’ ITMO First Vice Rector Daria Kozlova at Far-East Session of Priority 2030 Program

  On November 25-26, the city of Khabarovsk played host to the first strategic session of the national program Priority 2030. Participants joined forces to flesh out the next specific steps in the transformation of the Russian Far East’s universities and the development of education in various regions of Russia. Discussions were moderated by rectors of the nation’s top universities, including Daria Kozlova, ITMO University’s First Vice Rector and head of its 2030 Development Strategy.

• First Time in Such Detail: Researchers Analyze Surface Properties of Spider Web

  PhD students and researchers from ITMO’s SCAMT Institute and their collaborators from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) have analyzed the surface properties of the Linothele fallax spider’s silk and how they affect the properties of the material as a whole. The study demonstrates that spider web can be used in both surgery and food packaging.
