  • I Am a Professional: Over 80 ITMO Students Become Diplomates of National Student Competition

    The results of the 2019 national student competition “I am a Professional” have just been announced. From a total of 500,000 students from all over Russia participating in this year’s competition, 3,472 became prize winners. This roll call of participants with the best results includes 80 ITMO University students, five of whom were even awarded gold medals. Diplomates of “I am a Professional” get admission perks when applying to Master’s and PhD programs at Russia’s leading universities, as well as an opportunity to partake in an internship at major companies.

  • On-Site Round of “I Am a Professional” Competition: Participants Share

    February 20 marked the final, on-site round of “I am a Professional”, a national competition for university students. ITMO University was one of the venues to host the three-hour contest. Participants of the “It’s Your Call!” winter school, which was held as part of the competition, and the final round of the competition itself, talked with ITMO.NEWS about their competition experience.   • Helping Sleepwalkers, Fighting Excessive Snow and Ensuring Better Security on Campus: Best Projects by 2019 “It’s Your Call!” Participants

    “It’s Your Call!”, a winter school organized by ITMO University together with Sberbank, has just come to a close. Attending this year were 180 contestants of the five educational tracks (Programming and IT, Data- and Cybersecurity, Big Data, Robotics, and Photonics) of the national student competition “I am a Professional”. Over the course of five days, the students took part in project work to find a solution to topical social and infrastructural issues with the help of modern technologies. All project work topics went under the common banner of “campus life”. ITMO.NEWS reports on the projects that made it onto the winners’ podium.

  • “It’s Your Call!” Winter School Launched at ITMO University

    The Winter School “It’s Your Call!”, organized by ITMO University and Sberbank, has recently begun its second season. The school brought together the participants of the national student competition “I am a Professional” in five educational tracks (“Programming and IT”, “Data- and Cybersecurity”, “Big Data”, “Robotics”, and “Photonics”). 180 Bachelor and Master’s students came to ITMO University to compete and shared their expectations for the Winter School.

  • Robot’s DNA, Biofuel Cells and Holographic Protection: SCAMT Workshop Week at ITMO

    ITMO University has recently hosted SCAMT Workshop Week, an interdisciplinary workshop aimed at helping students acquire in-depth knowledge and practical skills in chemistry and biology, as well as work on their own project in the field of modern nanotechnologies. This year, a total of ten projects were presented at the workshop. Among the highlights are a nano-pharmaceutical drug, a holographic  protection  system, and a robot’s DNA. Organized at ITMO for the second time, the event brought together 55 Bachelor’s and Master’s students from 18 regions of Russia, as well as Ukraine and Belarus.

  • SURF Stanford US-Russia Forum: Science Communication and Diplomacy

    The SURF Stanford US-Russia Forum is a year-long program for students and specialists from Russia and the USA who want to study the most relevant issues of today together. Each year, participants of SURF get to work alongside each other on research projects in the fields of politics, science, business, and others, to complete an unusual research/diplomacy program and to present the results of their work at Stanford University. This year, one of the program’s participants was Daria Denisova, the deputy head of ITMO University’s Science Communication Center. She spoke with ITMO.NEWS about taking part in SURF and getting to work with a space scientist from MIT.

  • Intercultural Nights, Legends and Movies: Erasmus+Youth Exchange Program

    Daria Zvyagintseva is a third-year student at ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty. Last month, she took part in the Secret Library student exchange program coordinated by Erasmus+Youth. In the course of ten days, students from Estonia, Macedonia, Jordan, Turkey, Italy, Georgia and Russia shared their countries’ legends and traditions, and even shot a movie.   • ITMO Students Take First Place in Physics Competition

    For the first time ever, ITMO University students won the annual regional student competition in physics. Denis Sedov and Anton Shubnik, second-year Bachelor’s students at the Faculty of Physics and Engineering, took first place in both team and individual championships. The competition was held at St. Petersburg Electrotechnical University “LETI”. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, the winners share their advice on how to solve competitions tasks to succeed.

  • ITMO Student Picked as Torchbearer of 2019 Winter Universiade

    Roman Kozlov is a student of the Master’s program Bioengineering and Biotechnical Systems, as well as the captain and manager of the University’s boxing team. This fall he was also chosen to be one of the torchbearers of the 19th International Winter Universiade. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Roman explained what it’s like to carry the torch and discussed the stereotype of less-than-athletic scientists.

  • Young Scientists Share Experience from Sirius School in Sochi

    The Sirius Art & Science Park in Sochi has recently hosted a four-day Conference School on Photonics, Radio Physics and Nanotechnologies. More than 60 students from Russian universities attended lectures and workshops, competed in a hackathon, and visited their first “real” science conference, METANANO-2018, which brought together more than 300 experts in the field of nanophotonics and metamaterials from all over the world. Speaking to ITMO.NEWS, the students shared the details of their research and gave their answers to the question of why fundamental science is relevant today and why conferences matter.
