Laeneco Founder Ilya Skorobogatov: How to Take the Japanese Market by Storm
This February, the team behind the telemedical healthcare startup Laeneco won a pitch session organized by ITMO University’s Technopark together with Japanese business experts. This victory gave them the opportunity to bring their hi-tech device for monitoring lung conditions to Fukuoka (Japan), where they participated in the prestigious WARAKU SUMMIT. The project has already made its entrance on the Japanese market, having received the backing of the country’s government. ITMO.NEWS met with Laeneco’s founder Ilya Skorobogatov to find out why the Land of the Rising Sun is so receptive to telemedical services and why launching on the Japanese market is often much easier than doing the same in Europe or the US.

ITMO and Rostelecom Support Technological Startups
Rostelecom and ITMO University have signed a cooperation agreement on joint acceleration programs and technological startups development. Together, the company and the university will launch several acceleration programs, as well as other educational events aimed at supporting Russian scientific organizations and industrial enterprises that specialize in information and communication technologies, cutting-edge products for all sectors of the economy, as well as software and hardware-software systems.

CEO of TuSion on Participating in Startup Festivals
TuSion is a neurogaming app that helps users develop their cognitive abilities by playing with the power of their minds. The app allows to decrease one’s level of stress and increase productivity. In the past, the team participated in ITMO’s Future Technologies accelerator. Since then, the project has undergone many changes, and its team has participated in many startup festivals and contests. Their members have recently returned from the *ship international festival in Finland where they made it into to the 10 best startup teams, and will soon participate in an acceleration program in New York. We’ve spoken to TuSion’s CEO Andrei Hapsasov and learned how the project changed over time, whether there is any point in participating in contests and conferences, and how to participate effectively.

ITMO Students Develop VR Lecture Hall to Replace Onsite Education
Horum is a virtual lecture hall where users can study any subject they like. The project’s team has been working on this service for more than three months, and they already have a demo lesson accessible to nearly any smartphone released after 2012. What is more, the online service can also be used to access the user’s VR projects and conduct lab work in a remote format. Starting with last year, the project is being accelerated as part of ITMO’s Future Technologies START program.

App by ITMO Student will Help Vocational Schools Go Digital
Back when ITMO student Yaroslav Prikazchikov was training at a vocational school (referred to as “colleges” in Russian) he already thought that it’s really uncomfortable that students have to keep track of changes in their schedule on the college’s website, and the communication with group presidents and fellow students is quite ineffective, so they often fail to receive important information on time. In order to optimize this process, he and his team first developed a chatbot for VK, then a mobile app, but never ceased to work on a better solution. Today, his new project is being accelerated at the Future Technologies accelerator. Several of St. Petersburg’s vocational schools already plan to give the new service a try, and in the future, Yaroslav is planning to introduce it in the regions. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, he shared about his project and the peculiarities of working with vocational schools.

How to Start Your Own Business: Advice from Experts
ITMO University just hosted an expert session for hardware, high-tech and IT projects of the Future Technologies accelerator. This year, a record-breaking amount of participants made it to the final selection - 25 teams in total. Up until March, they’ll be finalizing their technologies, choosing and testing business models, studying their target audiences and making their first sales. Recently, the novice entrepreneurs’ projects were assessed by experts - founders and CEO’s of companies, specialists on growing markets, the financial sector and marketing. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, they’ve shared about why most startups face common problems, the usual mistakes novice startupers face, and what there is to expect from 2018 in terms of promising technologies.

ITMO.REGIONS Startup School Comes to Volgograd State Technical University
As part of the ITMO.REGIONS trans-regional network of startup schools, an expert team from ITMO University has conducted two training programs on technology entrepreneurship and fundraising at the Volgograd State Technical University. The initiative is part of the “Conveyor of Innovations” strategic project; among its partners are the Volgograd Oblast business incubator and the regional government.

Doing Business European-style: Optimal Drive Will Accelerate in Helsinki
After winning the Finlanding category at the GoTech forum, ITMO Technopark’s resident Optimal Drive got the opportunity to participate in the NewGo acceleration program in Helsinki. This means that the company will get legal backing and advisory support from the Finnish accelerator that will allow it to enter the European market. Yaroslav Smirnov, the company’s CEO, shared about the peculiarities of launching a business in Finland and the new prospects of his company.

TechNet: New Opportunities for Innovative Startups
In future, all companies will share the same manufacturing processes and technologies and use similar equipment and materials. This is why it will be the intellectual component of their product that will provide most of the competitive advantage, as it is something that can't easily be copied. The ability to adapt a product to the rapidly changing market will be essential, as well. Production chain will change, too: major companies will make use of services provided by small innovative businesses by outsourcing particular tasks; products and technological processes will have "digital doubles", and robotization will extrude the human factor. The TechNet workgroup will be developing such an ecosystem as part of the National Technology Initiative; as of now, it offers different startups an opportunity to contribute to its development and get governmental support via the special TechNet program of the GenerationS accelerator.

Dave Vasquez: We Need To Start Teaching Entrepreneurship Back In School
Sixteen years ago, Dave Vasquez first came to Russia from Columbia to study Russian language and literature. Since then, he has succeeded in launching several independent projects, participated in accelerators in Moscow and St. Petersburg, graduated from a Master's program in Barcelona and worked some time with American startups.
