• ITMO Researchers Team Up With French Scientists on New Type of Hybrid Nanoparticles

  Scientists from ITMO’s Department of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials have won a grant as part of a federal targeted program. The three-year project will be carried out in collaboration with the Institute Jean Lamour (France), which has a great deal of experience in production and characterization of new hybrid nanostructures which have no counterparts among the existing materials and structures. This collaborative research will include the development of methods for the creation of new hybrid crystalline nanoparticles based on two metals, metal-insulators and metal-organics, as well as proving their unique optical properties. In future, they may serve as a foundation for cheap and effective hybrid photonic nanodevices.

• ITMO Technopark Resident Orbi Receives CES Innovation Awards in Wearables and VR/AR

  Orbi Prime, the world’s first wearable 360-degree camera glasses with a 4K resolution, were named among the best new innovations in two categories at CES 2018, the world’s largest technology and innovation show. The first batch will be released this August and shipped to the project’s backers. Orbi Inc. has been a resident of ITMO’s Technopark for a year.

• ITMO Graduate Nadia Polikarpova on Working at MIT and UC San Diego

  Ten years ago, Nadezhda Polikarpova graduated from ITMO University; since that time, she got her PhD at ETH Zurich under the supervision of renowned software engineering expert Bertrand Meyer, worked as a postdoc at MIT and got the position of an Assistant Professor at UC San Diego. • Here's How ITMO's New Academic Degree System Will Work

  Last year, 19 universities and 4 scientific organizations in Russia were given the right to grant their own academic degrees, form thesis boards and outline their credentials. According to representatives of those universities that have already started this process, it will help Russian universities better integrate into the international community. At the same time, experts agree: more abilities means more responsibility. • Stickerum Startup Brings Your Favorite Telegram Stickers to Life

  Social networks such as VK and the Telegram messenger app have made stickers hugely popular on the Russian internet. There are so many stickers available that you can express any emotion and replace whole sentences using them. However, the users don't just love the virtual stickers - you can find actual stickers of various brands, events, organizations and even famous personalities on laptops, smartphones, notebooks and more. Three students from ITMO University decided to bring the virtual stickers into reality, launching a startup called Stickerum, which lets Telegram users make real stickers out of virtual ones. Our special interview with Vitaliy Guryn, member of Stickerum’s team, gives us more insight into the new startup - and how to order your first set of stickers.

• Tatiana's Day: Russia Celebrates Its Students

  Did you know that Russian students have a special day devoted to them? Every year, on January 25th, they celebrate Student’s Day. On this day in 1775, Empress Elizabeth signed a decree for the establishment of the first university in Russia, Lomonosov Moscow State University. Years later it became the day for all university students in the country, or “Student’s Day”. Student’s Day usually falls on the last day of exams and on the beginning of the students’ winter holidays

• Generation Z: Who Are They?

  We don’t know much about Generation Z, since they are those born between the mid-1990s and early 2000s and now they are just graduating from college and entering the workforce. But these young people differ in many significant ways from their predecessors. Ksenia Pomogaeva, a first year Master’s student at ITMO University, conducted a research on Gen Z to find out the factors influencing their career choices and ways to motivate this new cohort of workers.
