  • Champions of ACM ICPC-2017: ITMO University’s team returns to St. Petersburg

    Ivan Belonogov, Vladimir Smykalov and Ilya Zban, who became world champions last Wednesday, and their coach, Andrey Stankevich, brought home the World Champion Cup in collegiate programming. This is the university’s seventh victory. No other university in the world has managed to beat ITMO University’s world record for number of ACM ICPC Champion titles.

  • We're the Champions! ITMO Programmers Set Record with 7th Win at ACM ICPC

    ITMO University programming team became World Champions at the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals that took place in Rapid City (USA) on May 24, 2017, setting a new record in the history of the contest. No other university had been able to win it seven times.  Vladimir Smykalov, Ivan Belonogov and Ilya Zban – all students of the ITMO University Computer Technologies Chair – successfully and quickly solved 10 out of 12 problems and beat some 133 teams from around the world. The contest took place for the 41st time.

  • Everybody Wants a Piece of the Pie: Why Universities Need to Create and Support Innovation

These were the topics of discussion at an open seminar at ITMO University, given by Professor Manijeh Reyhani – a researcher at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Management and Innovation (CEMI) at the University of Western Australia who has received her PhD in Materials Engineering and a Professional Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in the area of research innovation and commercialization.

    Being a scientist doesn’t just mean going to work – it means enjoying one’s work and turning it into a lifestyle, says Silvio Hrabar, ITMO University’s visiting scientist from University of Zagreb. He is conducting research into so-called “active” metamaterials which could provide a method of removing the physical limits of metamaterials. After all, these limits are the main reason why it’s so difficult to find an application for this technology. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, Silvio Hrabar shared his thoughts on how this could be achieved, what should inspire a scientist and what are the advantages of bringing together physicists and mathematicians to study metamaterials.
