Laura Rodriguez: From Biotechnologist to Science Artist
Hailing from sunny Mexico, Laura Rodriguez is a Master’s student at ITMO University’s Art & Science program where she explores bioart and sustainable materials. A bioartist working with bacterial cellulose, she has previously studied at Skoltech, where along with fellow students she worked on crafting environmentally-friendly leather from yeast and bacteria. What Happens In Your Brain When You Look at a Photograph: Joint Project by ITMO Students and Rosphoto
A group of students from ITMO University’s Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems conducted an exhibition project in the Art & Science format for the Rosphoto museum. With the use of a virtual reality headset, the students revealed what parts of the brain are activated when we look at various photographs. Despite the fact that the project was created specifically for the Night of Museums, it didn’t end there and was recently demonstrated at the 12th Public Relations Russian Student Forum PRKiT 2019. Science and Art Come Together at the “New Anthropology” Exposition

Startup Boom: SumIT Summer School at ITMO University
For the third time in a row, ITMO University’s Entrepreneurship Center organizes the SumIT international summer startup school. This year, SumIT is held as part of the StartUp Connect cross-border cooperation program. That’s why the program was, first and foremost, aimed at students from ITMO University and Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK University), Finland. Also participating are students from Finland, China and Bangladesh, as well as experts from the Entrepreneurship Center and businesspeople.

Technology and Policy Student Julia Milton: Science is a Very Good Instrument for Stabilizing the State of International Politics
Julia Milton is a student of MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics where she works in a lab that develops wearable devices for astronauts as well as exoskeletons, and space suits. Julia was a participant of this year’s Stanford US-Russia Forum: together with Daria Denisova, the deputy head of ITMO’s Science Communication and Outreach Office, the team developed a report and an art project dedicated to the US-Russian space cooperation. Inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope, the massive art piece will consist of numerous hexagonal shapes depicting the milestone events of the two countries’ shared history of space exploration. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, she spoke about their project, the popularization of space in Russia and the USA, and the importance of social initiative.

ITMO Master’s Student On Explaining Art By Means Of Multimedia
Arina Mezhenina is finishing her Master’s program “Multimedia Technologies for Theatre, Cinema and Television” at ITMO’s Educational Center of Graphic Technologies. She also takes part in organizing the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum, makes short videos and studies the principles of popularizing the ideas of art pieces by means of multimedia.
