ITMO University Graduates Become Forbes 30 Under 30 Nominees
Forbes Russia has released its second annual 30 Under 30 ranking. According to the authors, to get a mention in the list, by the age of 30 you need to have earned professional acclaim nationally or even globally. This year, two ITMO University graduates are among the nominees – Greg Tkachenko, co-founder of the startup AI Factory and manager at Snap, and Daniel Galper, founder and CEO of Grow Food.

ITMO University and Yandex Launch New Master’s Program in Data Analytics
ITMO University and Yandex will start training data analysis specialists. The Master’s program in Data Analytics is set to launch in the new academic year, but applications are already open. ITMO Graduate and Serokell Co-Founder Arseniy Seroka on Science, Haskell and Working Out of Office
In 2015, ITMO University alum Arseniy Seroka and his Riga-based colleague Jonn Mostovoy founded a company that has now grown to 60 people. The team doesn’t have an office, rigid working hours or a dress code – today, Serokell is powered by specialists from different parts of the world, living in different timezones. Such an unconventional structure doesn’t hinder the company from growth and development, supporting ITMO’s international “Computer Technologies” laboratory, and leading research projects at the university. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, Arseniy shares about why it’s important for an IT company to help young scientists, how Serokell is writing a book about their unique collaboration format, and why you shouldn’t take the easy route if you dream about a successful career in IT.

ITMO Grad and AI Factory Co-Founder Greg Tkachenko: Startups Are the Cure for Burnout
Greg Tkachenko graduated with a Master's degree from ITMO University's Information Technologies and Programming Faculty in 2017, but he achieved his first professional successes while still a student. As a second-year student, Greg, along with a few other students of the Computer Technologies Department, was invited to take part in an internship at Yandex, where he spent almost two and a half years. Then, he received offers from Mail.ru Group and Facebook, which he turned down to work on the startup AI Factory, which he co-founded with Alexander Mashrabov and Victor Shaburov. In December 2019, the company was acquired by Snapchat’s parent company Snap for $166 million. Greg Tkachenko sat down for a chat with ITMO.NEWS and told us where to find ideas for your tech startup and how to deal with failure.

ITMO University Student Team Becomes All-Round Winner of Moscow Travel Hack
Representing ITMO at the hackathon were four teams, two of which won in their respective tracks and passed into the finals. One of them, Golden PSZh, became the all-round winner of Russia’s first large-scale hackathon on digitalization in the field of tourism. Right now, the students are in discussions on incorporating their system into a potential customer’s operations. ITMO University Graduate Alexandra Bystrova: You Can Always Find Your Identity in a New Field, City or University
Alexandra Bystrova graduated from ITMO first with a Bachelor’s degree in “Informatics and Computer Hardware and Software” and then a Master’s degree in “Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation Economics”. She now lives in Moscow. Over the last couple of years, she went from a student just out of university to a product manager position in MTS, one of the largest Russian telecommunication companies. Mind-Blowing IT: Why ITMO Students Practice on Professional Flight Simulator
The UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) market has been witnessing increasing growth both in the US and around the world over the last five years, says the review by the Federal Aviation Administration. Gennady Korotkevich Becomes Three-Time Winner of Facebook Hacker Cup
In late October, the Facebook Hacker Cup 2019 open championship in programming came to an end at Facebook’s Dublin headquarters. ITMO’s PhD student Gennady Korotkevich, who won the championship in 2014 and 2015, has become its champion for the third time. In the final round, the programmer solved all six tasks faster than his competitors.
