  • Clean Slate: How to Fight Illegal Ads Through Blogging and Make Graffiti a Form of Fine Art

    The case-tournament LeaderCup Legal Ads took place at the “Boiling Point” creative space organized by Russian Agency for Strategic Initiatives. It was dedicated to fighting unauthorized advertisements and illegal graffiti in St. Petersburg. 10 teams made up of 150 local students proposed more than 50 various solutions to solve the issues related to maintaining the Northern Capital’s refined image. ITMO University’s students who took part in the tournament have secured the second place. ITMO.NEWS spoke with their members and found out more about how everyone can help against illegal advertising and graffiti.

  • Tournament of Two Capitals - Participants Share

    Last weekend in Moscow, the Tournamentof Two Capitals robotic contest came to the end. School students competed in four categories and the final assignment, where their robots had to climb mountains, race against each other, build bridges and ride seesaws. For each participant, the contest was something different: for some, robotics has already become a usual pastime, others got their first chance to prove that they really can construct and program autonomous machines. In an interview with our newsportal, the students shared about why they chose to do robotics, what is most difficult about it and what did the tournament mean to them.

  • Pure Math at ITMO: Students from 11 Countries Took Part in the NCUMC

    On April 22-24 ITMO opened its doors for the North Countries Universities Mathematical Competition (NCUMC). Regardless of its title, students from all countries can participate in the competition – this year the event welcomed representatives of Argentina. ITMO’s team was placed 2nd,students fromS t. Petersburg State University showed the best results.

  • Awards Given to ITMO University’s Most Successful and Prolific Alumni

    From 27th to 29th of April the Alumni Week was held at ITMO University. During this time every alumni, student or an employee had the chance to listen to lectures, learn about bringing ideas to life with the university’s help, get acquainted with the equipment at FabLab Technopark and find out about the ITMO University Alumni Association and the features of its new format. The “First Alumni Awards” contest was held as part of the events. On April 29th, during the week’s closing concert, the names of winners in a number of categories of the ITMO University Alumni Association Awards were announced as per the results of an online poll.

  • Tournament for Two Capitals: High School Children Presented their Robots

    ITMO University hosted semifinals of the Tournament for Two Capitals competition (Turnir Dvukh Stolits). Over 70 teams from schools of Saint Petersburg and the Leningrad Oblast presented their robots. The jury chose the 20 best teams that will compete with young engineers from Moscow on May 13-14.

    Gennady Korotkevich, Master’s student at ITMO’s Computer Technology Department, and his team, Roman Udovichenko and Sergei Djgirovskiy from the Yandex Company, won the finals of Deadline24 international contest that took place on April 22-23 in Katowice (Poland).

  • Virtual World in a Couple of Days

    “Creation of game worlds: from math models to art” – that was the topic of the 10th Interactive School “Technologies of High-Performance Computing and Computer Modeling.” During four days the participants attended lectures on video game development and gamification as well as created their own game worlds.
