In the world of miniature lasers, few materials are as useful as perovskites – that is, if we could solve the issue of their instability when exposed to electric current. Researchers from multiple Russian universities including ITMO may have the solution: carbon nanotubes. So far, experiments have resulted in successful setups that were previously deemed unfeasible. The solution-grown nature of perovskites would make such a technology, if implemented on the industrial scale, a game changer in terms of production costs.

Rome wasn’t built in a day – but with new technology from ITMO’s Institute of Design and Urban Studies, it could certainly be planned in under a minute. The institute’s urban scientists have built a web app that assesses the social infrastructure of a neighborhood, district, or an entire city to detect shortages of services, from kindergartens to hospitals. It can also evaluate the impact of proposed changes and improvements.

Artificial intelligence
The utopian vision of an interconnected world of medical data, where professionals and purpose-built software programs are able to consider every facet of a patient’s medical history, often runs into a simple, mundane hurdle – the chaotic spectrum of formats in which this data is stored. To tackle the issue, student developers at ITMO’s Digital Public Health Technologies Lab have created MAS-EHR, a multi-agent system that converts fragmented medical data into a shared format, depersonalizes it, and even assigns markers in accordance with international reference systems.
