In this year’s edition, ITMO University is named Russia’s best university in Automation & Control, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, and Computer Science & Engineering. It also became the only Russian university to be featured in Telecommunication Engineering and made it to the Russian top 3 in Materials Science & Engineering.
“Since 2009, ITMO has been developing its world-class laboratory in automatic control systems and technical cybernetics, which was made possible in part thanks to the megagrant we received in 2023 and Project 5-100. The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is the most scientometric and objective ranking that evaluates exclusively a university’s academic performance . At the core of academic achievements is a robust community of like-minded people. With that in mind, we strived to build a network of strong, consistent, and trustful ties with the world’s top-tier scientists, which is still active today. Also, we are working on our open research platform. ITMO is the only university in Russia that implements not one but two projects as part of the program of joint universities with China’s Hangzhou Dianzi University and Changchun University of Science and Technology,” noted Alexey Bobtsov, the head of ITMO’s School of Computer Technologies and Control.
The ranking covers a total of 55 subjects in five areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. This year’s edition ranked a total of 5,000 universities from 104 countries, with only 1,900 making it to the final list.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is based on bibliometric indicators from the Web of Science and analytics platform InCites. In the ranking, universities are measured against several indicators, including the number and citation rate of publications featured in the world’s leading journals, international co-authorship, and the number of laureates of prestigious scientific awards and prizes among the staff.
