Petr Gumennik is 24 and is about to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree from ITMO’s Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems. He combines his studies with a successful career as a figure skater, plays music, and regularly appears in the media. In 2022, Petr passed his Unified State Exams with flying colors and was admitted to study computer systems and technologies at ITMO. At that time, he had already won medals at major Russian and international competitions and had a dream to perform at the Winter Olympics in 2026.
His dream came true: Petr was one of the few Russian athletes allowed to participate in the Winter Olympics in Milan. Despite performing as a neutral athlete, having to change his music days before the short program, and difficulties with equipment, he demonstrated a great mastery of the sport. His combined score was 271.21 points, earning him the sixth place, which is the best result for a Russian athlete since 2010.
After the Olympics, Petr won the hearts of viewers in Russia and around the world with his honesty, charm, and confidence. Videos in his support and snippets from his interviews went viral, while Vogue Italia mentioned his outfit for the short skate program as one of the most notable at the Olympics.
In May 2026, Petr also made the list of Top 50 Most Famous People in St. Petersburg in the category Shows and Sports by Sobaka.ru media. This award is given to St. Petersburg citizens who influence the city and have a media presence.
