What do you love the most about your country?
I love the weather. It is so warm and cozy. After moving to Russia, I am missing it a lot more.
What are Nigerian people like?
They are very friendly and kind people. You will always see everyone smiling. Despite hardships, we tend to live happily together. We consider everyone as one big family.
Which city is your favorite?
I’d say Lagos, the capital city. It is upbeat 24/7. You’ll always find something interesting happening here.
What’s the most interesting Nigerian food that you’ve tasted?
Garri - it is my favorite dish as well. The main ingredient of this dish is granulated cassava, a root vegetable that is not fit for consumption unless peeled and cooked properly. It contains toxic chemicals that can cause food poisoning and other complications if the plant is eaten raw.
What are your preferences in terms of music?
I am a big fan of Nigerian music – afrobeats. My favorite artist is Burna Boy.
What brought you to ITMO?
I am a software engineering enthusiast who wants to build a career in the IT sector. Sadly, the quality of education in such disciplines is not so great in Nigeria. Therefore, I wanted to study in a foreign country. ITMO is one of the leaders in computer science education. Hence, I am here.
Are you enrolled in the Foundation Program?
Yes, I am currently learning the Russian language. Knowing the language is so important. Even if you don’t need Russian to study, you’ll need it a lot for other things. Or, for instance, if you’re at the grocery store buying stuff, you’ll have to talk to the salesperson in Russian as most of them don’t speak English.
How do you find the learning process?
It is difficult, but I am progressing well. Over a short period of time, I think I have learned a lot. If I keep practicing, I am confident that I will be able to communicate fluently, too.
When did you arrive in St. Petersburg?
I landed here on November 17, 2022, just the day after my birthday. Bidding farewell to my family was tough, especially on my birthday, but I had to do it for my future.
How does it feel to be here?
It is a great feeling. I love the city. I am a big admirer of the architectural marvels here. Also, the diversity of people in this city is praiseworthy.
Do you feel homesick?
I do at times, but my parents are very supportive of me. We talk to each other regularly over video calls. It is difficult to live away from your family, but you have to do it for the sake of your career.
How are you keeping yourself warm during the winter?
I was surprised that I did not really struggle with the cold here. I never expected this! Whenever I go out, I make sure to cover myself up with warm clothes and that’s it.
Does coffee offer any help?
Yes, it does help your body stay warm. But I don’t really drink a lot of it.
What about Russian food? Do you like it?
I do like Russian dishes a lot. My favorite is kasha or porridge. Other items on the list include pelmeni, borscht, and plov.
Do you live in a dormitory?
Yes, I live in the dormitory on Vyazemsky Lane. I share my room with two Russian guys. It is a great way to learn about their culture and lifestyle.
What is your opinion about it?
It is a very comfortable place for students to live. There are also a number of leisure options here like the gym, board room, etc. Food is easily available here thanks to the big cafeteria.
What are your hobbies?
I like listening to music. I like playing video games, as well. My favorite game is FIFA.

Cristiano Ronaldo.
What do you like the most about him?
I like his physique and work ethic. He is such a hard-working person. His dedication is inspiring.
Did you watch the World Cup?
Yes, I did. I was supporting Portugal, but they got knocked out in the quarter-final. Nevertheless, congratulations to Messi for winning the World Cup.
What are your plans for the New Year?
I don’t have any special plans as such. I will be with my friends and explore the city. Maybe visit some Christmas markets.
