Summer activities
Sunny days are a luxury in St. Petersburg – so, make the most of them! Just last month, we at ITMO NEWS put together a handy digest on summertime leisure in the city, featuring sports, singing, outdoor movie screenings, and more.
And if you need even more ideas, look no further than this comprehensive summer guide:
Of course, sometimes staying indoors and just chilling is a perfectly acceptable notion, too! In that case, you can make use of our best tips on making your dorm room or rental apartment look like a dream home.
Last but not least, a great way to get out of the house, make connections, and recharge is to give back to the community. And you don’t have to look far – ITMO has plenty of volunteering-focused student clubs at your disposal! For instance, animal lovers can help out at shelters (and get some warm cuddles in return!) with the Paws of Help club. Read our interview with the club’s student team here:
Short trips
Need some time away from the hustle-and-bustle? St. Petersburg is a great starting point for journeys in nearly every direction! The numerous historical suburban towns make for excellent day-trip destinations even at a relatively low budget. Read all about each of them in our travel guide:
If you’re into birdwatching, herbarium-making, or simply can’t get enough of nature retreats, there’s also the option of spending a few hours – or a whole day – on an eco-path. Some are short and found next to resort towns with their many cafes and other conveniences; others are lengthy and quite remote, so you can pick a “difficulty level” depending on your preference. Find our overview of key eco-paths near the city here:

Mental health
Of course, before you opt for any of the above activities, you’ve got to be in good spirits and back on track. Burnout is often a familiar feeling to those who’ve been to university, and recovering from the pre-exam cramming sessions isn’t always easy. Last year, one of our writers personally tested a slew of different methods, from to-do lists and hobbies to techniques like reframing and reflection. Find out which ones worked here:
Sleep
Obviously, a big part of mental hygiene is maintaining a proper sleep regimen – and who, if not students, is more familiar with that challenge? Thus, it has been a mission of ours here at ITMO NEWS to get to the bottom of all your sleep-related queries. Do any of the folk remedies, like chamomile tea or doing yoga, actually work? Find out here. We reviewed even more methods, ranging from evening walks to Zoom sessions, here.
Another key part of getting good sleep? Knowing how to properly wake up! Coffee, dancing, or even journaling – if you often find yourself feeling sluggish in the morning, go ahead and try one of the many suggestions from our article:
