Up and GATOM
Researchers from the International Laboratory “Computer Technologies” have launched GATOM, an online platform that allows users to analyze genetic and biological processes on the atomic scale. This includes the study of metabolic processes and the various deviations found in living organisms. The scientists believe the tool will be helpful in developing treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases.
New lab by ITMO and MTS
ITMO University has once again partnered with the telecommunications provider MTS, this time on the creation of a corporate academic laboratory. The company’s AI research department joined efforts with the Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems to conduct research on Edge AI – a field of research focused on compact neuroaccelerators and systems-on-a-chip.

New Master’s in AI and Biotech
ITMO University has unveiled a new Master’s program AI in Biotechnology Systems, established in partnership with the Almetyevsk State Oil Institute. Its students will apply the latest knowledge in IT and big data to solve the challenges of biotechnologies and, among other things, develop new and improved medical treatments. The program is also supported by its industrial partner, the oil-and-gas company Tatneft.
DataCon at SCAMT Institute
On July 16 - August 1, ITMO will host DataCon – a free online workshop and hackathon. Its participants will use their knowledge of machine learning to solve chemical problems while learning about the university’s projects in AI and nanomedicine. Winners will receive special opportunities for application to ITMO’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs, as well as a chance to participate in an internship at SCAMT Institute’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Chemistry. Exhibition of Art & Science projects opens at ITMO
Running from May 27 till July 24, 2022, STAGE is the annual exhibition of projects by graduate students of ITMO’s Art & Science program. This year’s topic is global changes and the transition between eras – appropriately enough, the high-tech event has this time found its home in the former church building of ITMO’s Lomonosova St. 9 campus. The daring installations utilize a variety of approaches – from VR and neural networks to soil and fungus.
