Founder of ITMO Accelerator Resident GoRobo on Robotics and Entrepreneurship
In the course of two years, the GoRobo company has worked its way from a small hobby club to a network of robotics clubs for children, which brings together some 250 kids interested in programming and engineering. A resident of ITMO University’s business accelerator, the company is currently about to open its sixth venue. ITMO.NEWS talked to GoRobo’s head Eldar Ihlasov to find out how he decided to center his business around children’s hobby clubs, what challenges he faced, and why he didn’t give up.

ITMO Fellow Fabio Bonsignorio and Professor Alexander Kapitonov: Research Reproducibility Will Generate a Sea Change in Our Economy
Fabio Bonsignorio is one of the most prominent researchers in the field of biorobotics and technologies of the future. He is also a participant of the ITMO Fellowship program. Together with Alexander Kapitonov, associate professor at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics, the scientist works on a range of projects on research reproducibility and openness, using blockchain technologies for communication between automated systems, and other fields. ITMO University Takes Second Place at RoboCup 2019
On July 7, the Australian city of Sydney hosted the biggest international robotics competition RoboCup 2019. Representing Russia was ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory with their new robot ELSA, a beautiful humanoid playing the flute. ITMO team took second place in the OnStage Advanced category and first place in the RoboCup SuperTeam Challenge category.

ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Team Wins Gold in National Stage of World Robot Olympiad 2019
On June 23, the 2019 Russian Robot Olympiad, the national stage of the World Robot Olympiad, wrapped up at the Innopolis University (Kazan). This year, the venue, which has been hosting the country’s largest competition in the field since 2014, welcomed 211 coaches and 537 participants aged from 12 to 18 years old. Among them was the team from ITMO University’s Youth Robotics Laboratory, who presented their new invention, LEGO Education Helper, taking the first prize of the competition.

SNAC-2019: Summer School on Nonlinear and Adaptive Control Brings Together Young Scientists From Around the World
The Saint Petersburg Summer School on Nonlinear and Adaptive Control (SNAC-2019) has just come to a close at ITMO University. Over the course of three days, the world's leading experts in the field delivered lectures on scientific fundamentals and the latest trends. Nearly 90 young scientists from nine countries, including Germany, Italy, France, the UK, and others attended the event. Speakers and participants of SNAC-2019 spoke to ITMO.NEWS about the benefits of summer schools and the reasons why the knowledge of control theory is now a desired asset for many professionals.

Mile of Technology Contest in Ilmenau: ITMO Team Emerges Third in Drone Race
Held by the Ilmenau University of Technology, Mile of Technology is an eminent robotics competition setting the stage for a technology-themed festival attended by over 15,000 visitors each year. This year’s competition took place in early May, with ITMO University’s robotics team, who received a special invitation to participate, placing third in the Drone Race track. ITMO.NEWS spoke to them about their experience.

ELSA: New Robot by ITMO’s Youth Robotics Laboratory
On April 28, the Russian city of Tomsk hosted RoboCup Open Russia, the national round of the RoboCup 2019 international robotics competition. The event brought together 120 teams and 500 participants of different ages, from school children and to university students and graduates, including the members of the Youth Robotics Laboratory of ITMO University’s School of Computer Technologies and Control, who presented their new robot ELSA and took the second prize in the competition’s most creative category, RoboCup OnStage.

ITMO University Students Win NTI Competition
At the beginning of March, a number of ITMO University students went to Innopolis University to participate in the Competition of the National Technology Initiative, which they ended up winning. Previously held exclusively for school students, in 2019 the competition was spread to university students. By participant’s accounts, the organization process wasn’t always up to standard, but the four days of dynamic work and exciting collaborations at the state-of-the-art science center and communication were worth it.
