  • ITMO University Graduates Become Forbes 30 Under 30 Nominees

    Forbes Russia has released its second annual 30 Under 30 ranking. According to the authors, to get a mention in the list, by the age of 30 you need to have earned professional acclaim nationally or even globally. This year, two ITMO University graduates are among the nominees – Greg Tkachenko, co-founder of the startup AI Factory and manager at Snap, and Daniel Galper, founder and CEO of Grow Food.

  • ITMO University Gains Positions in THE University Impact Rankings

    THE University Impact Rankings is the world’s only ranking to assess universities based on their contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participating universities must contribute to at least four SDGs, including the 17th – development of global partnerships. This year, ITMO University was included in four categories, all named after the corresponding goals: no poverty (SDG 1), industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11), and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). In the general ranking, ITMO was included among the global top 400 and received numbered positions in all four categories; in one category, the university was ranked among the top 100.

  • RAEX Ranking 2020: ITMO University Rated Russia’s First in Computer Science

    The RAEX rating agency has published its latest annual subject rankings of scientific productivity and invention (patent) activity among Russian universities. ITMO University is included in the top 10 of both rankings. The University also came first out of all Russian universities in the subject ranking for computer science and in a narrower field of hardware architecture.

  • Russian and Dutch Researchers on What’s Holding Back a Revolution in Data Storage

    Almost all of us store data on cloud services and use social networks. Some know that servers hosting that data occupy whole buildings and require significant resources to maintain. The world’s best researchers are at work trying to make data hosting more affordable, secure and user-friendly, but no revolutionizing changes have happened so far. Recently, Alexandra Kalashnikova, a physicist at the Ioffe Institute and ITMO University, along with colleagues from Radboud University Nijmegen (the Netherlands) and the Prokhorov General Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences have published a paper in Physics Reports. In the article, researchers explain why the industry hasn’t yet begun recording data on HDDs with lasers, or dropped disk drives altogether. Alexandra told ITMO.NEWS more about the paper.
