Andrei Gomez: Learn English to Get the Most Out of Life
Andrei Gomez De Oliveira Giovanni is a Master’s degree student in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at ITMO University. He is currently doing an internship at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (Brazil) where, under the supervision of Dr. Dmitry Kolpashchikov, his team is developing quantitative logic-gated DNA nanomachines designed to treat cancer. Andrey’s research focuses on improving the CRISPR-Cas9 methodologies to edit the bovine genome.

ITMO Grad and AI Factory Co-Founder Greg Tkachenko: Startups Are the Cure for Burnout
Greg Tkachenko graduated with a Master's degree from ITMO University's Information Technologies and Programming Faculty in 2017, but he achieved his first professional successes while still a student. As a second-year student, Greg, along with a few other students of the Computer Technologies Department, was invited to take part in an internship at Yandex, where he spent almost two and a half years. Then, he received offers from Mail.ru Group and Facebook, which he turned down to work on the startup AI Factory, which he co-founded with Alexander Mashrabov and Victor Shaburov. In December 2019, the company was acquired by Snapchat’s parent company Snap for $166 million. Greg Tkachenko sat down for a chat with ITMO.NEWS and told us where to find ideas for your tech startup and how to deal with failure.

ITMO University Student Team Becomes All-Round Winner of Moscow Travel Hack
Representing ITMO at the hackathon were four teams, two of which won in their respective tracks and passed into the finals. One of them, Golden PSZh, became the all-round winner of Russia’s first large-scale hackathon on digitalization in the field of tourism. Right now, the students are in discussions on incorporating their system into a potential customer’s operations. ITMO University Hosts Potanin Scholarship Contest Finals
The on-site round of the Potanin scholarship contest for Master’s students was held in eight Russian cities between January 22 and February 10. The organizers usually keep the tasks of the on-site round secret, but their format is known to be not unlike that of business simulation games and case competitions. We asked representatives of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation about the aims of the contest and the qualities of a perfect candidate.
