  • Giant Paper Plane Dives in at Red Bull Flugtag

    Flugtag is a festival of creativity, engineering and, naturally, flying -  or at least trying to. Its participants create improvised flying machines, and boost them from a high pier into the water; the main condition is that they can only use muscle power as their "engines". And though the flight distance is among the assessment criteria, it is by no way the main thing: most of the machines ended up in the water soon after leaving the take-off strip.   • IEEE Award Winner Slobozhanyuk: “There Are No Stupid Questions in Science”

    Alexey Slobozhanyuk, a postgraduate student and research associate at ITMO University’s International Laboratory “Applied Radioengineering”, has received an award from the IEEE’s Antennas and Propagation Society. Such recognition provides many opportunities for work in research institutes all over the world, yet, the winner says, he wants to give back to his alma mater and his country. In an interview with ITMO.NEWS, Alexey speaks about his working process, how a scientist can remain enthusiastic and not get tired of work, what makes research important and relevant and why there are no stupid questions in science.

  • Relocation Tips: What You Need to Know About ITMO Dorms

    ITMO University has several dormitories in different districts of St. Petersburg. International students are mostly housed in two of them: Vyazemsky lane 5-7 and Karpovka embankment 22. Both are located in the historic center of St. Petersburg, not far from ITMO University's main building. Here’s a map where you can see all of ITMO's buildings and dorms in the city.

  • Ecological Raids: International Ecocamp at Yagodnoe

    The international volunteer camp Ecological Raids was held at ITMO University’s health-and-sports center Yagodnoe. For two weeks students from 12 countries attended talks and workshops on social and ecological projects, came up with ideas for Ecohouses and got to know more about Russian culture. All of this happened on the shores of a beautiful lake in the Karelian isthmus.

  • Gennady Korotkevich Wins Google Code Jam Fourth Time in a Row

    ITMO University’s Master’s student Gennady Korotkevich has set a new record as the four-time winner of the international programming competition Google Code Jam. Evgeny Kapun, a PhD student at ITMO, took 5th place. The final round of the competition took place in Dublin on 11th August and lasted four hours. One day earlier, the Distributed Code Jam competition was also held in Ireland, in which Evgeny Kapun took second place, and Pavel Mavrin, a tutor at the Computer Technology Department at ITMO, took fourth place

  • SHA2017: Summer Camp for Hackers

    Once every four years, a hacker camp is set up in the Netherlands, open to all visitors. This year, hacking enthusiasts from all over the world flocked to a location near Amsterdam. In search of new experiences Oleg Zaytsev, a Master’s student at ITMO University’s High-Performance Computations Department, went to one of the world’s biggest hacking conventions. We talked to him about what makes hacking parties so special and the things that make today’s “cyber-pirates” worried or happy.

  • DemoDay: Projects from MIT Global Startup Labs and SumIT Startup School

    The SumIT Startup School and the MIT Global Startup Labs acceleration programs have both come to a close at ITMO University. Young entrepreneurs from Russia and South Korea have received feedback from an expert board of staff from MIT and ITMO University’s business incubator. Their ideas were presented to potential investors during the DemoDay closing event on August 10.

These are some of the questions that were asked at the launch of the new “Formula for Science PR 3.0” handbook – a collection of practices and expert opinions.
