ITMO Scientists Create Microspherical Light Amplifiers for Medical Diagnostics
ITMO researchers have developed resonator microparticles that emit light and amplify it by hundreds of times. Thanks to this property, they can be used in producing light-emitting medical sensors for the detection of marker molecules of various diseases in blood samples. Moreover, such structures can be used as miniature anti-fraud markings, including in microelectronics. The results of the Russian Science Foundation-supported study were published in Optics and Laser Technology.

Everyone Gets a Cyber Donut: ITMO and Yandex Education Launch Traveling Science Fest
ITMO University and Yandex Education are setting off on a big journey with Kiberpyshechnaya (lit. “cyber donut shop”)! The partners’ food truck will cover over 4,000 km and visit five cities, bringing a mini-science festival to each of them. Visitors will get to taste the legendary St. Petersburg pyshki, visit open lectures, play games, learn about opportunities for applicants, and even get the chance to win a PlayStation. ITMO-Trained Team Wins Four Medals at International Olympiad in Informatics
A team of Russian school students won two gold and two silver medals at the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), one of the world’s most prestigious competitions for young programmers. This year, the contest took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and brought together 386 participants from 97 countries. The Russian team was traditionally coached by Andrey Stankevich, the dean of ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.

Bachelor’s Admissions Wrap Up at ITMO: More Applicants, Higher Scores
The admissions period for tuition-free positions in Bachelor’s programs at Russian universities has ended. ITMO has already published the first orders of admission. In 2026, the university received over 32,000 applications, which is a 150%increase from last year’s numbers. ITMO also welcomed a record number of contest winners in St. Petersburg.

Over 300 Lecturers From 18 Universities Complete ITMO Program on Teaching AI
A professional development program for lecturers in top-level AI educational programs has just wrapped up at ITMO. It welcomed 331 educators from 19 Russian universities. At the end of the course, interuniversity teams presented 54 projects.
