ITMO Students' Facial Recognition System Wins 'Best Creative Solution' at Fintech Cup
The future of the banking industry becomes increasingly interconnected with biometric technology. Sberbank has already started implementing the latest technologies in this field and collecting its clients’ biometric data. Experts estimate that two million bank clients will use biometrics by 2020. This is the main focus of the Interface project conducted by students from ITMO’s Faculty of Infocommunication Technologies. The project even got the prize for the best creative solution at the Fintech Cup-2018 Championship. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, the students share their thoughts about the future of biometric data.

ITMO Graduate and Entrepreneur Yaroslav Pavlov on Changing Academia Through IT
10 years ago, Yaroslav Pavlov graduated from ITMO’s Business Informatics program; since then, he’s managed to study in three different countries, build a managerial career in the field of IT, and launch one of Russia’s first iMBA programs at the RANEPA Institute. Currently, Mr. Pavlov is head of his own project that helps Russian business schools and companies get distance education processes up and running. itmo.ru: The Best Birthday Present
On March 26, ITMO University turned 118. One of the best presents was from its alum Yuri Luzhkov, who gave the university the domain name itmo.ru. The transfer was managed by ITMO University Alumni Association and in part funded by ITMO Endowment Fund. As a student at the Department of Computational Technologies, Luzhkov created and developed an alternative, student portal. In the early 2000’s, before the rise of social networks, students could find study materials, share music and make friends at itmo.ru. Here’s how the first student-driven site was created, what kind of content was popular 15 years ago and what current university sites should look like.
